Foodpanda’s New Service Has No Delivery Fee ‘Coz There’s No Delivery

Foodpanda is known for their food delivery service. Perfect for when you’re too lazy to dress up and go out.

But what if, what if, foodpanda takes away the delivery part of their service?

That’s like chicken rice without the chicken, man.

Now hold up. Before you get all worked up and charge towards foodpanda’s office with parangs and SAR-21s, they’re not taking away the food delivery service.

Instead, they’re giving you an option to pick up your food instead of getting it delivered to you.

Foodpanda Announce New Service: Pick-Up

On 7 Nov, foodpanda announced that they’re now adding the option of letting customers pick up their own food instead of getting it delivered to them.

The plus point of using this service? There’s no delivery charge and you don’t have to obey the minimum order rule.

So what’s the difference between picking up food and going to buy it yourself?

According to foodpanda, this will allow you to skip the queues for free.

So let’s say you want to get food from KFC. Instead of waiting in the queue for 15 minutes, you can “reserve” it via the foodpanda app, set a time to drop by and pick up on your way home.

The app will show users the distance to the restaurant which allows them to plan their trip accordingly and have a “hassle-free” collection.

It was added that food ordered for Pick-Up typically takes 15 minutes to prepare.

This, foodpanda spokesperson said, will be great for picking up dinner on the way home, to skip the lunchtime queues (because lunch break one hour only) or to get some breakfast on your way to work.

There’ll Be Plenty Of Choices As Well

With Pick-Up, foodpanda claims that they’ll be the first app in Singapore to have over 2,000 restaurants to pick from.

Restaurants include:

  • 4Fingers Crispy Chicken
  • Fun Toast
  • Gong Cha
  • KFC
  • Krispy Kreme
  • Starbucks
  • The Soup Spoon
  • Toast Box
  • And more!

Almost a third of their 6,000 strong restaurant partners will be participating in the new service.

While there are other similar services in Singapore, like Deliveroo’s Click & Collect service and honestbee’s pick-up service, they’re operating on a smaller scale.

Deliveroo’s pick up service is only applicable to seven restaurants at its centralised kitchen space while honestbee’s service is confined to its new grocery and dining concept, habitat.

Well, I’ll say that this service has never come at a better time. After all, having to pick up your own food means you’ll need to walk a few more steps.

And that’s always good because the National Steps Challenge is here.

Save on delivery fee and win some vouchers at the same time? It’s too good to be true…but true.

And if you’re still wondering how would foodpanda earn money without delivery fee, here’s the truth that might shock the pee out from you: food delivery firms take a cut from your order.

That’s where the dough is. Not that delivery fee you’ve been trying to siam.

So yeah. Shocking, isn’t it?

But of course, I bet some of you are thinking of this: why not just call the restaurant to place your order? #justsaying
