Former Director of MNC Jailed for Taking Upskirt Videos of Colleagues; Caught After Being Fired from Company

Much like the coronavirus, the law doesn’t discriminate.

Whether you’re a cat working for Goody Feed or a director of a multinational corporation, you’ll have to face the consequences if you choose to break the law.

And that’s exactly what happened to one 46-year-old man with some twisted desires.

Former Director of MNC Jailed for Taking Upskirt Videos of Colleagues

A former director of a multination firm was jailed 12 weeks on Monday (11 Jan) for filming up the skirts of his female colleagues and sister-in-law.

The 46-year-old Singaporean PR cannot be named due to a court order to protect his victims.

The company, which cannot be named either, hired the man in 2013, and fired him in 2019.

It all started in 2015, with his own sister-in-law.

While he and his wife were having dinner with his wife’s sister one day in May, the man held his phone under the table to film up her dress.

He took another video of her in 2019, again at his Sims Avenue home.

As you’ve probably noticed from other cases of upskirt videos, the perpetrators very rarely stop after a couple of videos.

Once they manage to get away with the crime a few times, they often go on a rampage.

From 2016 to 2019, the man also took upskirt videos of unknown colleagues at his workplace.

Crime Discovered After Man Was Fired For Another Offence

The man was fired from the multinational corporation in Feb 2019, but not for the reason you think.

The company received allegations that the man had awarded an inordinate amount of business to a supplier.

The firm later cleared the man of all wrongdoing, but the perception of misconduct was enough to terminate his employment.

It’s only because of this arbitrary termination that his sexual offences came to light.

As per the company’s standard procedure, the man surrendered his phone for internal investigations.

A senior manager at the company then came across the incriminating upskirt videos.

She made a police report to the Clementi Neighbourhood Police Centre on 10 May, 2019, the same day he was fired.

“Overcome with Shame and Guilt” After Offences

The man pleaded guilty to five counts of insulting a woman’s modesty, with another 10 similar charges taken into consideration for sentencing.

The man’s lawyer said his client “would be overcome with shame and guilt each time he succumbed to the temptation of filming these women”.

He had seen a psychiatrist and psychologist on several occasions beforehand and retains the support of his wife.

The man received 12 weeks’ jail in the end, but he could have been behind bars for up to a year.
