French Man Gets 4 Days Jail For Displaying ‘An Offensive Gesture’ To ICA Officer

Rule number one. Don’t be rude to people. How do you go about doing that?

It’s pretty simple actually. For one, you should try as best as possible to avoid making “offensive gestures” to officers. Especially, in a foreign country.

Rood.

Now let’s get straight to the point.

A man from France was sentenced to jail for four days and fined $3,000 for making an offensive gesture to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers on 20 September.

ICA took to Facebook to share about the incident and reiterate that doing such a thing is not only just plain rude, but you also get an all-expense-paid stay in prison for your efforts.

For four full days, no less.

The Incident

So what triggered this French traveller? Well, he became upset when further checks were done on him at Changi Airport Terminal 1 Departure Hall.

He then thought it would be a great idea to show an obscene gesture at an ICA officer who was really just trying to do his job.

He was subsequently arrested and sentenced on 3 October 2019.

In the Facebook post, ICA reiterated that its staff was protected by the law and are just carrying out their duties. As such, basic manners and respect should be given to them.

In other words, please be polite and treat them with dignity, lest you want to go to jail or be fined the equivalent of your flight ticket price.

It’s a no brainer that there’s zero tolerance for threatening, abusing or insulting public servants on duty.

But outside of duty maybe can? Just kidding la.

Those who still insist on flouting the rules will have action taken against them.

Here is the facebook post:

Moral of the story? Don’t anyhowly make “obscene gestures” to ICA officers.
