Fu Lin Bar – Hidden Gem That is a Yong Tau Foo Restaurant by Day and Bar by Night

Many of you might have heard of Fu Lin Yong Tau Foo, a popular yong tau foo place that serves their unique version of yong tau foo. Unlike every other stall out there, Fu Lin doesn’t use the traditional soup noodles, instead opting for a Minced Chicken Mushroom Gravy made from their signature secret recipe.

It feels like the mix between Ipoh Hor Fun and Yong Tau Foo you never knew you wanted.

Their flagship store, situated along Telok Ayer Street, had been transformed into a hipster bar a few years back. That’s in the CBD area, within walking distance of the very much well-known bar area of Clark Quay.

It’s anyone’s guess how this place managed to stay under the radar for so long.

On the outside, it looks exactly like one of those bars that serve fusion food and plays indie music, but on the inside… it still looks like that. One difference, however, is that during the day, the bar serves their signature Yong Tau Foo, complete with the plastic containers and tongs.

It is definitely a unique experience, to enjoy yong tau foo in a hip bar setting, and picking your ingredients right on the bar table, facing rows of alcohol.

After your bowl of yong tau foo, and if you stay past 3pm, the hipster bar emerges from below the hawker stall. The trays of ingredients are gone, and they start serving some fusion tapas and alcohol. They have dishes such as Hanging Tender Beef, wrapped in bacon and covered with chestnut puree, and Bacon Bak Kua, topped with smoked cream.

There’s probably nothing else like this anywhere in Singapore.
