In July 2016, Funan Digitallife Mall closed its doors to the public, ending an era as well as hopes of fervent visitors.
But like every superhero movie out there, the comeback was always going to happen. Fast forward nearly 3 whole years, alongside a whopping renovation sum of $560 million, and Funan Mall’s back…
Bigger, better and way more hi-tech.
Funan Mall
Stretching 887,000 sqft (~82,405 sqm) in total gross floor area, the new six-storey Funan Mall is 85% larger than its predecessor, the Funan DigitaLife Mall.
Described as an exciting lifestyle destination “plugged into the world of tech- and socially-savvy consumers”, the mall’s located right in the heart of Singapore’s Civic District, and is a new “paradigm for live, work and play”.
It will also be Singapore’s first “online and offline mall”, powered by an “ecosystem of sensors, data analytics and facial recognition tools to better understand consumer shopping habits and preferences”.
Apart from retail shops, the mall will also include two office blocks, and will be home to MNCs as well as “coworking spaces for the mobile workforce”.
What should you look out for?
The new Funan’s not only bigger, but it’s going to be a whole lot more ‘fun’ as well.
Cycling, for example, is permitted on Level 1, where there’s an indoor cycling track incorporated.
And to really appeal to all the bikers out there, end-of-trip facilities like cafes and showers for cyclists will be available.
English bike brand Brompton Bicycle will also launch its first flagship store in Singapore there.
As for the tech tenants, merchants Newstead Technologies, AddOn Systems and T K Foto will be available for visiting, while gaming store GamePro will be taking care of eSports tournaments at Funan’s dedicated eSports zone.
Hi-tech
In addition to their slew of facilities, Funan customers will be able to access a host of hi-tech features through the CapitaStar members app, where they’ll be able to book and access open studios, sign up for craft workshops, get tickets to theatre performances at Wild Rice and book meeting rooms at WeWork.
The app will also sync with the mall’s smart parking lots, which will allow drivers to book parking lots in advance, locate their car and fork out parking fees with it.
An in-app ePayment feature called StarPay will also be available as a payment option, and Funan will be equipped with a 24-hour click-and-collect drive-through facility.
And if you’re not a fan of carrying purchases around while window shopping, an in-mall robot will be able to pick up purchases from stores and deposit the bags at the mall’s click-and-collect boxes at Basement 2.
There will even be a facial recognition system in place, which will offer personalised recommendations based on your demographic!
Additionally, Funan will sport facilities such as urban farm Edible Garden City, the CBD’s only futsal court Ark Futsal and rock climbing facility Climb Central.
Golden Village Cineplex, Kopitiam Foodcourt and Carrie K. and Keepers’ flagship store have also been confirmed to be tenants at Funan.

Jewel might’ve occupied the attention of many Singaporeans in recent times, but we’re calling it;
This new Funan Mall is gonna attract just as many, if not more, visitors as Jewel did.
So stay tuned for June 2019, because it’s gonna be one hell of a fun ride then!
