It appears that our worst fears may soon come to pass.
So lest you’re unaware, a recent spate of Covid-19 clusters and cases had led to talks of an imminent lockdown.
Even the relevant authorities were prepared for the worst.
But it seems that from the looks of it, a fully-fledged lockdown may remain as a mere possibility, not reality.
Lawrence Wong: No Need for Further COVID-19 Restrictions As Community Cases Have Stabilised
According to Finance Minister Lawrence Wong, the recent spate of new community cases has stabilised.
This means that tentatively, there will be no real need for any further Covid-19 restrictions.
“We do not think there is a need for further tightening in our overall posture” for now, he said at a virtual press conference.
He attributed the feat to the tightening of measures and the cooperation of everyone in Singapore.
“That’s all because of the tightening (of measures) and because everyone in Singapore is cooperating and doing their part,” he said.
“So we thank everyone for doing that – for being vigilant, for scaling back activities, staying home wherever they can and going out only for essential activities,” said Mr Wong.
“I think if we continue to do that… then we have a very good chance of continuing to bring down the cases and keep the infections in check,” he added.
According to The Straits Times, there will be a more detailed press conference happening next Monday (31 May 2021).
The virtual press conference was conducted to unveil enhanced support measures for struggling businesses, which have been adversely hit by the recently introduced measures.
Estimated to cost some S$800 million, these measures will benefit sectors such as gyms, fitness studios, performing arts organisations and arts education centres.

Measures
Lest you’re unaware, we’re currently under the Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) status.
Essentially a more lenient version of the Circuit Breaker, Singaporeans are still allowed to go out, but only in max group sizes of 2.
Dine-in has also been scrapped.
The tough guidelines have, however, contributed to visibly positive results.
Earlier today, for instance, there were 15 reported community cases.
Just days before, there was a daily number of above 20.
