Fans of gardens, bays, flowers and fantasies (GBFF for short), here’s an exciting update.
A new attraction is coming to Gardens by the Bay, and we’ve talked about it before. But now that it’s opening in less than two weeks, the intimate details have surfaced.
And I can tell you that this is truly something special.
Take a look:
About Floral Fantasy
Like the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest, Final Fantasy Floral Fantasy is an indoor air-conditioned garden attraction. Located right next to the Bayfront MRT station, it’s also the smallest of the lot at 1500 sq m, but it promises big things.
And before we go on….
Meet the creator
Melissa Tan and her team are the horticulturists/ fairies/ masterminds behind this thematic attraction. They designed the layout, weaved the stories and even incorporated some technological wonders into this place to create a place they describe as magical.
Okay, back to the attraction.
Floral Fantasy will feature flowers that have never been brought to Gardens by the Bay, or our country for that matter.
It is also divided into four zones: Dance, Float, Waltz and Drift. Each mimics a different natural environment, and is inspired by places like the Hanging Gardens of Babylon or … fairy tales.
Yes, fairy tales, as in stories like The Faraway Tree – they did say it was supposed to be magical!
Dance
Dance is the first zone, and you walk along a narrow path while being surrounded by flowers from your sides as well as from above with a suspended floral tapestry.
And at the end of the zone, you get Changi Airport’s Kinetic Rain in flower ball form.
And, okay, I expect this to be quite a deviation from the classy uniformed baubles, but maybe the surrealism of seeing huge clumps of levitating botany will complement the atmosphere perfectly by giving you that where-the-shit-am-I feeling.
And then you get to the next zone…
Float
Float features a winding, gurgling stream and bonsai plants at the sides.
And they’re really underselling this zone because even after hunting around, that’s about all the description we’re getting, but honestly, it sounds amazing already.
Waltz
This zone is all about what they call a “rain oasis”. You’re supposed to walk among the hanging flowers, rocks and driftwood and imagine strolling in a forest while it rains.
Which sounds like it would be really nasty actually, like any NSF in the army would tell you. But this is a magic forest so you’re just supposed to feel contemplative (nice save, Gardens by the Bay).
Also look forward to a vivarium here which features about 30 small and colourful poison dart frogs.
Drift
Now this place simulates a kind of cave like environment with rocky structures and dim lighting.
And Singapore isn’t really known for her caves, so maybe grab this opportunity to experience one.
Other features
Artist Corner
Here’s a space for emerging local artists, like Kristine Hakim to display their works.
And finally, the long awaited…
Fantasy Theatre
It features a 4D ride, Flight of the Dragonfly, and with the typical moving seats and water sprinkling, let’s visitors see the world through the eyes of a dragonfly flying through Gardens by the Bay.
Special Opening Promotion
For those who have fallen into the spell and are already preparing a trip to this wonderland, here’s some good news.
From 14 April to 13 May, you get special rates:
If you’re a Singaporean adult, that’s $9 for all the zones, the theatre and the artist corner. A pretty good deal!
So again, if you’re a fan of magic and fantasies, this may be the only chance you get to pretend like you’re not a sad, boring human on Earth.
Grab it. Or if need to, Grab there to grab it.
