Gender reveal parties have become more and more of a trend in recent years, and a Singaporean influencer decided to do a unique one for her baby too.
Strangely, she didn’t adhere to the usual gender reveal rules of getting someone killed or burning down a forest in the process.
Instead, influencer Grace, “@graceglazee”, did something unique and harmless: a cool lion dance gender reveal party.
Influencer Holds Lion Dance Gender Reveal Party
On 4 August, she posted a video to TikTok, showing her and her husband standing in front of a pair of blue and pink lions, representing a boy and a girl.

Judging by the location, it appeared to be Clarke Quay’s The Riverhouse restaurant.
The lion dance drum gave a drumroll as anticipation built. And then to a chorus of cheers, a mini blue lion emerged from a multi-coloured sheet, confirming her baby as a boy. Blue confetti popped into the air.
They then happily posed with the three lions, the two “adult” big cats unfurling red banners with auspicious idioms from their mouths.
“We can’t wait to meet our baby boy,” the caption in the video read, complete with a blue heart.
In both a YouTube video and a TikTok post, Grace revealed that the party itself was dim sum-themed, including bao cupcakes with random pink or blue fillings.
Even the cake was decorated like bamboo steamers for dim sum, making a pun off bao and baby (bao bao).
Partygoers had to guess whether the baby would be a boy or a girl. Of those shown in the video, 21 predicted a baby boy while 12 guessed a girl.
Grace also revealed that her Chinese-styled dress was specially made for the event, being blue with pink flowers.
Netizens Shower Praise Over Creative Gender Reveal
The gender reveal post quickly went viral, hitting over 466k likes as of press time.
Comments universally praised the party and the uniqueness of the lion dancers, one calling it “the most creative gender reveal I have ever seen”, coupled with “heart eyes” emojis.
One commenter gave compliments for an original and harmless reveal, while another said it was the only gender reveal party to put a smile on their face.
Many also lauded both the dim sum theme itself and Grace’s well-made dress.
Singapore has not fully embraced the concept of gender reveal parties, with only a handful done usually by celebrities or influencers.
Most notably though, our pandas Kai Kai and Jia Jia had a gender reveal for their new baby cub Le Le in 2021, thrown by the zookeepers.
They revealed the baby’s gender during Kai Kai’s birthday celebration, probably to avoid having to give the pandas ang pao twice.
