An accident involving a minibus and a motorcycle

On 11 June at around 5:06pm, an accident occurred near the intersection between Geylang Road and Lorong 20 Geylang.

As reported by multiple readers of LianHe WanBao (联合晚报), the accident involved a motorcycle and a minibus, and it resulted in a massive traffic jam in the area.

A reporter from the newspaper hastened to the scene and interviewed an eyewitness, 42-year-old Mr Liang (梁先生).

According to him, he just parked his car in the parking spot and was alighting from his car when he saw the accident happened.

Or more accurately, he first heard the accident before he saw it.

“I heard a loud “bang” and saw the motorcycle rider being flung through the air for at least 3 meters.

“I immediately ran to check on him after he fell to the ground and noticed that he had spewed out a stream of fresh blood,” he added.

The motorcycle rider is a food delivery rider working for Grab.

Besides Mr Liang, several members of the public went up to the injured rider to check on him as well.

Some have called the police and the ambulance.

The 45-year-old Grab rider was conscious when he was sent to the hospital.

Once the police arrived, the 67-year-old minibus driver was promptly arrested on the charge of negligent driving causing serious harm.

At the moment, no one knows exactly how the minibus managed to hit the Grab delivery driver.

The accident is still under investigation.

Plenty of evidence of the accident

Mr Liang said that he was taken several photos of the scene of the accident.

He also believed that his dashcam might have captured the incident too.

However, due to time constraints, he had to leave his contact info with some workers nearby, asking them to pass on the info to the police when they arrived.

He told the reporter that the police have already contacted him about the accident.

Based on the photos provided by Mr Liang, the front left bumper on the minibus is damaged, likely the exact spot where the Grab rider was hit.

The minibus was on the second lane of the road as well.
