In case you’re unaware, Singapore has been having more than its fair share of Netflix moments.
You can watch the video below to catch what I mean.
But when the blue cat was narrating the video (or trying to lah, at least), little did it know that our Netflix moments aren’t ending anytime soon.
Instead, it’s extended to a mysterious case of death.
Here’s what you need to know.
Man Who’s Found Dead in Geylang Flat Couldn’t Be Identified
On 5 Aug 2022, a man named Abdul Rahman Majid was found dead in his Geylang Bahru flat due to a coronary artery disease.
His youngest son had made the call to the police, telling them that his father had stopped breathing in the living room.
Abdul Rahman Majid was pronounced dead later, and there were no signs of struggle or injuries.
The police took the deceased fingerprints to confirm his identity.
When they ran his fingerprints through the Singapore national database, they couldn’t find a match.
Running the fingerprints through the Indonesia and Malaysia national databases yielded the same results.
In the flat, the police also couldn’t find the deceased’s identification documents (NRIC and passport).
The only form of identification which has the name “Abdul Rahman Majid” and the man’s photo are an old construction pass and a UOB Plaza pass.
The Real Abdul Rahman Majid is Still Alive
As if the case wasn’t mysterious enough, it turns out that the real Abdul Rahman Majid is still alive.
He has been staying in a welfare home at Buangkok since 1994, suffering from chronic schizophrenia.
While the deceased had medical history showing him receiving treatment at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) and Tan Tock Seng Hospital, it was the real Abdul Rahman Majid who attended these sessions.
This means that there isn’t any medical records tagged to the deceased.
Family Members Shocked, Blood Relation Confirmed
According to the investigating officer, the sons were visibly shocked when they were told that their father wasn’t Abdul Rahman Majid.
A blood test confirmed that the deceased is the biological father of his four sons.
The investigating officer was told to investigate further to dispel the mystery.
“Kassim”
The real Abdul Rahman Majid said he didn’t know the deceased when shown a picture of the man.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s wife and fourth son said they didn’t know the real Abdul Rahman Majid when shown a picture of him.
The investigating officer spoke to the cleaner in charge of the block the deceased stays in. He said the deceased wanted him to call him “Kassim”.
One of the man’s children also said that a man who came to their rental flat in Hougang called their father “Kassim”.
The investigating officer will approach HDB, the Registry of Muslim Marriages and the Registry of Marriages, as well as relatives to find out more.
