Most of the travelling we do nowadays is from our sofa to our beds, and occasionally to the fridge if we’re feeling particularly energetic.
Travel, among many other things, has been snatched away from us thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic.
All we can do at the moment is scroll through photos of our old vacations, and watch YouTubers travel to faraway lands while we cry ourselves to sleep.
Well, if these photos and videos aren’t enough for you, maybe some lantern replicas might make you feel better.
Jurong Lake Gardens Has Giant Lanterns That Are So IG-Worthy, Safe-Distancing Officers Might be Worried
Enter the Jurong Lake Gardens’ Festival of Lights, an impressive display of giant lanterns that will be open to the public from now till 3 Jan 2021.
But these lanterns are a little different from the ones you usually see.
That’s right, they’re huge replicas of famous landmarks around the world.
Take a trip to this Festival of Lights and you’ll see everything from the Statue of Liberty and Golden Gate Bridge in the US to the Westminster Cathedral and Big Ben in the UK.
Come with your bae to Little Paris in Jurong and have a romantic date amid the iconic Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, and Notre Dame.
And we can’t forget the breathtaking Taj Mahal, listed as one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
The 3,700 meters-tall Mount Fuji will also be on display here, though it’ll be slightly smaller than the real thing.
Mythical Creatures & Christmas-themed Lanterns
The Festival of Lights will feature a few mystical creatures and some Christmassy lanterns as well, which will provide the perfect backdrop for pictures during this festive period.
If you get a chance to speak to Santa Claus at Jurong Lake Gardens, do remind him that most of us have been nice this year and all we want is to travel again.
“A Better Tomorrow”
With the theme “A Better Tomorrow”,  the festival aims to foster better community bonds among Singaporeans by acknowledging the unity, determination, and resilience of citizens in the ongoing battle against Covid-19, according to the New Age Parents.
In addition to providing a meaningful year-end activity, it also seeks to inspire hope for the future, something we all desperately need at the moment.
If the troubles of 2020 have gotten you down, this festival might just brighten your night.
