As an ancient Greek philosopher once said: “If you want to get started in the service industry, get a cat first”.
Sure, no philosopher may have actually uttered these words, but the point stands.
Cats, as cute and small as they are, are owned by no one.
Instead, we humans act as their servants, attending to their every need for food and affection, despite getting only getting death stares and hisses in return.
Still, despite how powerful these little felines are, we understandably feel concerned when we see one stranded on the streets.
Especially if it’s in sunny Singapore and they’re wearing a shirt.
Ginger Cat in Hawaiian Shirt Appears Lost in Tampines
A man has appealed to the public for information after finding a well-dressed cat at Tampines Street 45.
In an 18 Jan post on the Singapore Missing Cats Facebook group, the man shared a picture of a rather chunky ginger cat wearing a Hawaiian shirt.
The cat looked like it was about to go on holiday, but was then informed of the Covid-19 border restrictions.
Some netizens found the sight adorable and cracked jokes.
Others were concerned, however, pointing out that clothing a cat could be dangerous.
The man who found the snazzy feline agreed and said in the comments section that he’d tried to remove the Hawaiian shirt, but was put off by the cat’s constant hissing.
He eventually managed to undo its top button.
Waiting for Its Owner / Servant to Come Back?
As residents of HDB flats on the first floor will tell you, some cat owners will routinely let their little felines roam the streets (which should be avoided, BTW).
These cats often mingle with community cats and community human beings before returning home to get head pats and food.
Also, I don’t know about you, but I’ve never seen a cat wear a shirt on its own.
They can certainly take over the world, but they can’t put on shirts.
So, this cat may have been clothed and let loose by its servant, and could return to his home later in the day.
Another theory is that there’s a lunatic going around clothing cats in Hawaiian shirts, which seems more disturbing than a stranded pet.
Clothing Cats; Good or Bad?
As for whether clothing cats is a good idea, most seem to think it’s not.
See, even in chilly weather, putting a shirt on your cat is probably a bad idea.
This is because cats are kept warm by their own furry coats, and an extra layer on top of that may cause them to overheat.
Plus, you don’t want your cat to be the butt of jokes around its feline friends, do you?
Just let it be its little cat self, free from any material obstructions.
Hopefully, this well-dressed cat will find its way home soon.
