What you are about to read will sound straight out of a Taiwanese family drama where people cheat on each other and beat each other up.
Except, it is real life.
And right here in Singapore.
Girl Finds Indecent Photos Of Another Girl On BF’s Phone
Most recently, a 16-year-old girl, Jenny, discovered indecent photos of another girl in the phone of her 17-year-old boyfriend, John, while they were out with a group of friends.
It all started with finding photos of another girl’s buttocks while she was sleeping in shorts.
Probing further, Jenny found photos of herself sleeping in sports bra and underwear. Jenny was not aware that these photos were taken.
So you think it’s just going to be an argument and a break-up?
Read on.
Cue Backlash
In anger, Jenny kicked her then-boyfriend in his private part and slapped him four times. The boyfriend of the other girl also assaulted John in the chest, arms, stomach and face.
Another male friend in the group made his nose bleed by kicking him twice in the face. John was left to lie on the floor alone when the group was stopped by a passerby.
To finish it all of dramatically, the group decided to settle the case once and for all by taking turns to duel the boy individually.
Yeah, like those one-on-one fights you’ve often heard about in the 90s.
But Wait, There’s More
Towards the end of the third fight, Jenny discovered Whatsapp messages on John’s phone that suggested that he was having an affair with someone else. This aggravated Jenny’s emotions and led four other girls to beat John up together. Jenny stepped on his stomach and kicked him in the ribs.
John emerged from this alive but was unable to stand or see properly.
Deputy public prosecutor Jordon Li acknowledged that Jenny was young, and her actions were done not out of malice, but of a “misguided sense to right a wrong”.
Jenny has pleaded guilty to two charges of voluntarily causing hurt.
Reflections
Nothing breaks my heart like hearing of cheating cases or sexual crime. Reading this story may seem like sensational news at first glance, but upon reflection, it elicits many questions of what could have been done to avoid this.
As a society, it is important to come together to reflect why is it that there are so many sexual crimes and why the offenders are getting even younger. How did their precious and pure minds turn so vile?
We must be careful not to condemn the perpetrators but to understand how they arrived at the decision to commit the act of taking such photos.
