There’s a saying that the streets are like the jaws of death, and I bet most of us would agree.
And while Singapore’s a relatively safe country, accidents still happen on the road.
Just yesterday (25 April), a double-decker bus from Go-Ahead collided with a car at the junction between Hougang Avenue 4 and Buangkok Green.
The bus, which was from Go-Ahead Singapore’s bus service 43, occurred at around 10.35 am at the junction, which is located near Block 557 Hougang Street 51.
The accident left the front bumper of the bus damaged, and the licence plate fell off as well.
As for the white car, the left side of it was severely damaged. Fragments of the car even fell onto the road, and the hood was knocked off the car too.
As a result, eight people were taken to hospital while conscious.
Commuters’ Experience
When speaking to Shin Min Daily News about the incident, a lady surnamed Chen, who was seated on the upper deck of the bus, revealed that the incident happened when the bus was driving in a straight direction.
Ms Chen, who was sitting in the second row on the bus’ upper deck, added that she saw the white car trying to turn right before the collision occurred.
The bus driver then tried to jam the brakes to avoid hitting the car, but it was too late.
Ms Chen also mentioned that many passengers on the lower deck of the bus were injured.
An elderly passenger even fell down and started bleeding.
Another commuter named Mo Tianfa (Hanyu pinyin) recalled how he was playing games on his phone during the accident.
According to him, the impact of the accident caused his bag to be thrown six seats away from where he was sitting at.
He added that a passenger on the lower deck was lifted off the bus on a stretcher.
Apart from that, Mr Mo also revealed that the driver of the white car gave a thumbs-up after the accident and that he seemed to be conscious as well.
Eight People Sent to Hospital, Go-Ahead Offering Assistance
After the incident, a spokesperson from Go-Ahead announced that the company is currently in the process of contacting the affected passengers to offer assistance to them.
The spokesperson also highlighted that Go-Ahead will actively aid the relevant authorities in their investigations.
Additionally, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed that eight individuals aged between 33 and 85 were sent to hospitals while conscious after the accident.
Seven of them were passengers of the bus, while the other person was the driver of the white car.
Two of the eight people were sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, while the other six were sent to Sengkang General Hospital.

Another Recent Accident, Also Involving Go-Ahead, Killed a Man
And it seems like this isn’t the only recent accident involving a Go-Ahead Singapore bus.
Earlier this month, on 10 April, a 65-year-old cyclist passed away after an accident involving a Go-Ahead bus at the junction of Pasir Ris Drive 3, Pasir Ris Central.
The bus, which belonged to bus service 358, collided with the male cyclist’s bicycle.
Police were alerted to the incident at around 7.20 am that day, and the 45-year-old bus driver is currently assisting the police with their investigations.
Here’s a simplified summary of the South Korea martial law that even a 5-year-old would understand:
