People’s Power Party (PPP) founder Goh Meng Seng is many things. But one thing he’s not is being gay.

Or at least, that’s what we inferred from his speech.

Straight, Straight and Straight

People’s Power Party (PPP) founder Goh Meng Seng affirmed his sexual orientation during the party’s Ang Mo Kio (AMK) GRC rally, responding to what he described as an online smear campaign against him.

“Who is Goh Meng Seng?” he asked the audience at the rally.

“I’m a straightforward guy. I’m straight!” Mr Goh declared, drawing some cheers from attendees. “Remember, I’m straight!”

This statement follows his viral comment from the party’s first rally on 24 Apr 2024, where he stated, “Don’t ask me about Pritam Singh again. I’m not interested in him. I’m not gay.”

Mr Goh has also previously posted online about PPP’s opposition to what he termed the “LGBTQ Agenda.”

Strong Backbone

During his AMK GRC speech, he also positioned himself as a defender of citizens’ rights and interests.

“I will speak up! I will not just keep quiet, and that is Goh Meng Seng,” he told the crowd.

He promised to be the first to criticize those in power if they betrayed the people’s trust.

“Not because I hated them, I have no personal interest in them. I’m straight,” he reiterated with a smile.

The PPP chief shared that a supporter had supposedly complimented him as being the last opposition figure with a strong backbone.

Netizens React

Despite Mr Goh’s insistence on being straight, Netizens seem to think otherwise.

On 30 April 2025, Mothership posted an excerpt of Mr Goh’s straightforward speech on Instagram, and Netizens proceeded to challenge Mr Goh’s claims.

One even suggested that the straightest tend to end up being the complete opposite.

Apart from straight policies, Mr Goh also focused on gambling and vaccination issues.

“You either love me or hate me for my courage, my guts, or for my straight-talking manner,” Mr Goh told attendees at the AMK GRC rally.

Despite potential mixed reactions to his approach, he insisted that he fights for everyone’s rights.

Mr Goh cited his opposition to the government’s 2005 plans to build integrated resorts, citing concerns about resulting social problems.

“It is the government’s job to provide such data and tell us what’s the damage of these casinos,” he stated.

He contrasted this with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s rally speech, where the PM claimed the PAP would “never gamble” with Singaporeans’ lives.

Mr Goh characterized the Covid-19 vaccination program as another example of such “gambling.”

The PPP has maintained an anti-vaccine stance in their proposed policies.
