A wise man once said, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”
I bet Gong Cha once said this to the wise man: “Right, hold my beer bubble tea and watch.”
Back in 2017, Gong Cha left us temporarily and people cried weeks before they announced a comeback, and comeback they do: with 18 stores in Singapore now, they’re expanding so fast, it’s like they were never gone.
But of course, as with any bubble tea articles, we have to plug our YouTube video educate our readers about bubble tea, and here’s the video we’ve done to worship the bubble tea God:
Finished watching it? Okay, be prepared to see it again when the next bubble tea article comes along.
But anyways.
If you’re a hipster who Instagrams everything from a microwave oven to a pair of SAF combat boots, then you’d know about the Shilin Night Market that’s occurring from 19 April 2019.
And here’s the thing: Gong Cha would be there.
But it’ll be boring if it’s just Gong Cha ‘cuz you can find them anywhere, so our dearest bubble tea chain has decided to take it up a notch for this event.
Gong Cha X tokidoki Funhouse in Shilin Market
tokidoki, which stands for “sometimes” in Japanese, is a lifestyle brand that has taken the world by storm since its inception in 2005. Founded by Italian artist Simone Legno and two other partners, it comprises apparels with cartoon characters designed by Simone himself.
And these cartoon characters are so popular, they’ve become pop cultures, with even brands like Levi’s and ASICS Onitsuka Tiger collaborating with them to incorporate those cutesy characters on their apparels.
Simply put, it’s a hipster’s brand that definitely blends in well with Shilin Market.
And so, Gong Cha and tokidoki swiped right for each other and would be featuring a funhouse in the night market.
Here’s what they’ve written:
It’s official – we’re partnering @tokidokibrand to bring its larger-than-life characters, Boba Bob and Boba Betty to our Gong Cha Bubble Tea Funhouse! Get to savour three brand new tokidoki x Gong Cha bubble tea flavours and snag limited edition tokidoki merchandise, all available exclusively at the Funhouse.
Hipster?
Hipster-est.

Wait, There’s More
Skip the Queue with Gong Cha
Gong Cha has predicted that there’ll be a queue in Shilin Market, and we predict that it’s not because they’ve a crystal ball that can tell the future: it’s based purely on history and statistics, as any event like this would definitely draw a large crowd.
So if you spend $10 in any Gong Cha stores (except for the ones in SMU, Takashimaya, NUS and TTSH), you’ll receive a pair of “fast passes” that allow you to skip the queues. Not sure what queue they’re referring to, though, whether it’s to Gong Cha stall in Shilin Market or the entire market itself.
And I don’t know about you, but I just realised that they’ve outlets in two hospitals…which leads to this comment of the year:
Burnt.
