Police Called in to Control Angry Crowd Outside Grab Office As People Register to Deliver Food & Groceries

The coronavirus isn’t just creating havoc in people’s physical health and livelihoods.

It’s hurting people’s mental welfare.

It’s so bad that a dedicated helpline is established in Singapore because tempers would flare easier during this period.

Case in point: the crowd outside Grab HQ today.

Police Called in to Control Angry Crowd in Grab HQ As People Register to Delivery Food & Groceries

With more people staying at home, we need more people to deliver our food and groceries.

And in order to start work, they’d have to register for it and collect the gears required for the delivery.

Which is why today, many Grab drivers, who can now deliver food and groceries as well now, went to Grab Driver Centre (GDC) at Sin Ming to register and collect their gears.

But with everything moving so fast (remember, the announcement about Circuit Breaker was made just five days ago and it took effect just yesterday), you’re bound to see a spike in people registering for it.

And that happened today, when a crowd was formed outside Grab Driver Centre today.

With safe distancing measures, it’s no surprise that the queue is longer than the wait for Hello Kitty soft toys.

Because the wait was way too long, people started to get unruly and crowded around.

And eventually, the police has to be called in to help out in crowd control.

It’s later revealed that many of them are Grab drivers who were registering to deliver food and groceries, but due to the crowd and the circuit breaker rules in place, some were turned away.

To solve the problem, Grab has said that they would be allowing them to book an appointment instead to collect the delivery gear.

They added, “We apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to assure our partners and the wider community that we take all necessary precautions to look after their safety and wellbeing.”

In the meantime, do read this article on when you can or cannot leave your house, because today, a staggering 142 cases were reported, and if this doesn’t improve, the Circuit Breaker period might extend.
