Do you know what’s spookier than a GST hike? It’s being in an enclosed space with strangers in light of the COVID-19 virus.
What if germs fly everywhere? What if someone infected with the COVID-19 was in the same enclosed space as me just 5 seconds ago?
That’s what the voice in your head is probably thinking. So it’s understandable that this passenger requested for the car windows to be wound down.
Unfortunately, this Grab driver was not having it:

32-Year-Old Preggo Woman Spoke To Media
The 32-year-old pregnant woman spoke to Shin Min Daily News to share about her less-than-pleasant Grab ride.
She had felt unwell in the afternoon and decided to book a Grab ride from Punggol to Gleneagles Hospital with her husband.
After she hopped into the car, she immediately asked if the driver could wind down the car windows so that the vehicle would be more ventilated.
However, the driver didn’t respond and so she repeated her question.
The driver finally responded and tried to reassure her that the car had been disinfected.
The driver also pointed out that if the windows were wound down, dust would enter from the road and this would affect the passenger experience of his future Grab customers.

At that point, they had only travelled a mere 800 metres.

Grab Refunds The Pregnant Lady & Investigation Was Launched
The pregnant woman contacted Grab later and told them about the incident.
She has since received a refund of $18. Grab also informed her that they would be launching an investigation into the incident.
The lady revealed that since the COVID-19 outbreak began, she has taken around 15 Grab rides in total for check-ups or to run errands.
According to her, the Grab drivers have always been very kind and considerate.
For instance, there were times when they would ask if they need to slow down as they knew that she was pregnant.
She also felt that though the drivers sometimes wore masks, winding down the window was a good extra measure during the COVID-19 outbreak.
A Grab spokesperson who spoke to Mothership confirmed the incident and said, the users’ well-being is “of utmost priority” and they expect “all users on our platform to treat one another with respect and kindness”.
Grab’s Measures In Light Of COVID-19 Outbreak
One of the measures that have been put into place by Grab following the COVID-19 outbreak was the temporary suspension of the GrabShare services until further notice.
However, Grab assured that JustGrab and other ride services will still be available during this period.
It is not known when the services will resume.
In addition to this, Grab has also implemented frequent disinfection as well as winding down car windows after each ride.
Experts Say Fresh Air Is Important So Virus Can’t Thrive
Now this information wasn’t plucked out of thin air.
Experts have stepped out to confirm that opening the windows and letting fresh air in is actually a good idea to reduce risk of COVID-19.
This is because past studies show that viruses thrive better in cool and dry climates. Thus, opening windows will make it less conducive for the virus to thrive.
After all, between dust and COVID-19, which one would you choose?
