Grab Offers $100 Bonus For GrabFood Riders Who Switch To Bike, E-Bike Or Walking To Deliver Food

Over the past few weeks, food delivery riders were shooketh.

All because of this.

Within the span of one day, some delivery riders realised that their ricebowl is practically gone.

It was mentioned that among all three major food delivery services, GrabFood is the hardest hit with 33% of their fleet delivering on PMDs.

So how?

Time to look for a new job?

Apparently, Grab isn’t as willing to let go of their delivery riders for they are now offering a cash bonus for riders who remained delivering.

GrabFood Offers $100 Cash Bonus

Grab announced a S$100 switch bonus for GrabFood riders who switched to other vehicle types:

  • Bicycle
  • Power-assisted bicycle
  • Motorcycle
  • Bus 11 (Walk)

To qualify for the bonus, riders must complete at least 40 trips within the span of two weeks.

The counter starts from the first day of a successful switch.

This bonus will be available until 31 Dec 2019. Which means, the latest you can make the switch is in mid-December.

I know what you’re thinking: chey, $100 only. Where got enough?

But you mustn’t forget, that’s on top of the S$7 million grant that the government set up to help PMD riders.

Or, specifically, food delivery riders.

Trade-in Grant (eTG)

Open for applications since 15 Nov 2019, the grant is set up by the Government and food delivery companies.

Requirements to be eligible for the grant:

  • Be a Grab registered PMD delivery rider as of 3 Nov 2019 (before the ban announcement)
  • Have completed at least one GrabFood trip between 9 Oct and 7 Nov 2019
  • Have an LTA-registered e-scooter that is tied to their GrabFood account to trade-in.

Unfortunately, it’s not a cash grant; instead, the riders can trade in their PMDs for grants of $600 or $1,000 to buy a new bicycle or e-bicycle. For bicycles, the grant is $600 while for e-bicycle, the grant is $1,000.

A check online shows that an entry-level e-bicycle costs less than $1,000, so this is definitely a solution…though drivers might now complain about seeing more bicycles on the road #cannotpleaseveryone

Trade-in can be done at the respective food delivery companies.

What About In The Interim

Not everyone can afford to take days off work. What about between giving away your e-scooter and getting your shiny new vehicle?

Do you walk?

You can…if you want to.

The GrabFood team has secured better rates for renting and purchasing of bicycles, PABs and motorcycles for their riders.

GrabFood riders can also rent from SGBike bicycles for free until 31 Dec 2019. Of course, they’ll have to make a deposit of S$100 in order to enjoy the service, but it is totally refundable.

This, they say, will allow riders to see if the new selected vehicles are suitable for them in making their deliveries.
