GrabFood Offers Additional Incentive for Riders Who Deliver McDonald’s BTS Meals

With the launch of the long-awaited BTS meal at McDonald’s outlets in Singapore island-wide on 21 June, we can expect to see a pretty crazy volume of orders rivalling the group’s insanely successful latest hit track, “Butter”

You may remember that the BTS meal was supposed to be released in Singapore on 27 May, but experienced a delay of more than three weeks due to a resurgence in COVID-19 in Singapore and a rise of community cases in particular.

And you know what they say—absence makes the heart fonder. There’s no telling what chaos is about to be unleashed upon the McDonald’s outlets of our little red dot when 21 June rolls around and feral fans all around the island are let out of their cages, eager to sink their teeth into this exclusive meal.

By the way, 21 June is also when dine-ins are supposed to resume, so that’s just doubles the number of ARMYs—which are what BTS fans are called—who’ll be scrambling to get that BTS meal.

The projected high demand has led to food delivery platform GrabFood coming up with an idea to incentivise their delivery riders to volunteer to help deliver BTS meals.

Here’s what you need to know.

GrabFood Offers Additional Incentive for Riders Who Deliver McDonald’s BTS Meals

The food delivery platform is attempting to incentivise delivery riders to volunteer to deliver BTS meals on launch day and the day after with higher monetary compensation.

The platform will be paying riders an extra $3 for every two BTS meals delivered on 21 and 22 June, on top of the usual $5 to $7 that a rider typically earns for a food delivery trip.

As a result of all the hype surrounding the BTS meal, there will be an exponential increase in the volume of orders at McDonald’s outlets islandwide.

Hence, the waiting time for delivery personnel to collect an order at McDonald’s will be increased as well, particularly during lunch, dinner and supper peak periods.

The monetary incentive is therefore intended to function as a sort of compensation for any reduced earnings that riders may have to contend with as a consequence of longer waiting times during the picking up of orders.

BTS Meal Only Available for Delivery

In fact, McDonald’s Singapore has announced today (16 Jun) that the BTS Meal will only be available via delivery; you can’t get it at Drive-Thrus or in-store.

This is so as to minimise the inevitable crowding when the meal finally lands in our stores.

But what’s the loss, really? ARMYs can enjoy not only safety and good food right in the comfort of their homes, but McDonald’s has also announced that it will be selling the BTS Meal at a special price of $8.90, which is 10% off the usual delivery price.

Remember ARMYs, there’s no need to rush to your nearest McDonald’s to camp out for hours; just order your food via McDelivery, Grab, or foodpanda!

What You Can Get in A BTS Meal

If you’re wondering what all the fuss is about, or you haven’t an inkling what the BTS meal is, we’ve got you covered.

It basically includes 9-piece Chicken McNuggets®, Large World Famous Fries®, Large Drink, and Sweet Chili and Cajun dipping sauces which draw inspiration from well-loved recipes from McDonald’s outlets in South Korea.

This exclusive meal is inspired by the hit boyband’s go-to order at McDonald’s.

Malaysia was the first country in Asia to launch the BTS meal. There were some dedicated fans who brought their own containers to store the food so as to keep the original packaging of the BTS meal in mint condition, to be enshrined on their BTS altars at home.

The meal has also been launched in Indonesia, which saw its McDonald’s outlets dealing with severe overcrowding. 13 McDonald’s outlets were forced to close as a result.

Some of the delivery personnel were seen not wearing masks, or wearing them the wrong way.
