If you’ve watched Crazy Rich Asians, you would know that rich Asians tend to be kinda… flamboyant in their ways.
But if you thought that the concept is just that, in reel life, here’s a surprise for you:
Crazy Rich Asians are very much real.
And indeed, my hypothesis can’t possibly be more well-explained than this particular article, which is perhaps best encapsulated by its non-clickbait headline:
Granny Who Begged Money from Passers-by Found to Live in a Villa & Has 10 Shop Lots
The Granny Who Isn’t Actually Crazy But Just Really Rich
A 79-year-old granny from Hang Zhou, China, has been sighted begging for money from passers-by at a bus station, which admittedly wouldn’t have normally made headline news had there not been a twist in the story:
This granny is actually living n a five-storey villa (with three rooms on each floor, and more than 10 air-conditioners installed in that premise) with more than 10 shop lots to her name.
Yep, no kidding.
In fact, the revelation was so darn shocking that the bus station management had to step in to warn the public, lest they unknowingly donate money to her. Because let’s face it; she looks pretty convincing in that get-up.
In her defence, however, the granny had stated that she had wished to sell maps in the vicinity of the station, but the management disapproved.
As a result, she had begun to beg for money from travellers at the station. But still, it doesn’t explain why she even resorted to begging in the first place, considering her considerable… wealth.
And the story complicates
Honestly, had I been a 79-year-old with endless wealth to my name, I would have probably spent my time relaxing in my own personal jacuzzi, instead of going around and begging for money.
But it seems that like Cinderella, there might be a twist in the story.
According to China Press, the granny’s son has revealed that she turned a deaf ear to his advice.
“I told her that it’s fine if she doesn’t care about her reputation, but we (the son and his family) do.
“In terms of money, she is a lot richer than most of the people here. She has savings in a few banks around here,” the son said.
Although it has to be stated that he did try to circumvent personally: he had shown his mother pictures of herself that were circulating on social media. But much to his dismay, she had persisted in her daily routine of boarding a bus to the train station at 10:00 a.m., and taking a train to her ‘usual spot’.
The power of habits?
Criticism
Netizens aren’t known for being particularly forgiving, and it wasn’t different this time around. After the news went viral online, the son was criticised for not accompanying his parents enough, and that the granny’s behaviour was spurred on by loneliness and boredom.
In response, the son stated that he’s currently living with his parents, and it’s pretty impossible to stay at home and accompany them all the time, considering how he’s a working adult and all.
Well, guess that’s that, though I’m curious;
What do you think?
