Great Eastern Will Provide Free COVID-19 Protection Coverage for All S’pore Residents

Good news: free COVID-19 protection coverage will be provided by Great Eastern Life Assurance for all Singapore residents!

The post-vaccination protection plan, known as the GREAT Covid Care Plan, will provide a cash payout of S$200 per day of hospitalisation up to S$2,000 if one is hospitalised after being vaccinated due to COVID-19.

The coverage plan includes both local and overseas hospitalisation.

According to Great Eastern in a statement on Saturday (26 Jun), this coverage plan would aid Singaporeans travelling abroad for work or leisure, as well as overseas residents visiting their home country

Great Eastern Group chief executive Khor Hock Seng said, “With the steady progress of the vaccination programme in Singapore, the country is well positioned for recovery in this new phase.

“Many in Singapore have done their part to be vaccinated and as we adapt to an environment where COVID-19 is likely to remain endemic for at least a period of time, we want to continue to do our part to protect our community in Singapore and even when they travel overseas.”

The company said that a Singapore resident is defined as any Singaporean or Singapore Permanent Resident with a valid employment pass (EP holders/S Pass holders/work permit) or student’s pass or dependant’s pass, and living in Singapore.

In order to qualify for the coverage, residents have to receive their first dose of the vaccination by 31 December this year.

In addition, the vaccine has to be authorised by the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) or supplied under the Special Access Route.

Furthermore, the coverage also includes children who have been vaccinated. Parents may help register for their children under the age of 18.

The plan will provide coverage for 12 months from the date of registration, or from the date of their first dose of the vaccine, whichever is later.

In order to activate the free coverage, residents have to register via Great Eastern’s website by 30 September.

Private Sector Introduces Initiatives To Support Singapore’s Vaccination Programme

Apart from Great Eastern, OCBC Bank had earlier announced an initiative to support Singapore’s vaccination programme.

The bank said that staff in Singapore would have their medical fees reimbursed if they develop side effects as a result of the vaccine.

Bank employees would also get one day off on the day they receive the vaccine dose.

Private taxi reimbursement to and from vaccination centres will also be provided. An extra two days of medical leave will also be given if employees develop side effects, with no need to produce a medical certificate.

Prudential’s Integrated Shield Plan and corporate customers were offered coverage in the event of being hospitalised as a result of side effects from vaccination.
