It’s time for Terrifying Tuesday!

So what do I have in store you guys this very terrifying Tuesday? Well, for starters, this one’s for all the taxi drivers out there.

Picture this: You’ve just finished a shag ass 14-hour work shift, and you’re preparing to head home. While waiting at a red light, however, someone opens your taxi door and asks if you can fetch them. You decline, stating that you’re changing shift, but they jumped in nevertheless, this group of 2 guys and 2 girls. When you reiterate your intentions, they get angry, and one tries to hit you.

Terrifying? Indeed, I can’t even imagine the terror this particular taxi driver must’ve felt, on that cold and lonely night.

And in case you’re wondering, it’s a true account.

What happened?

In the early hours of Saturday morning (16 Feb), a taxi driver found himself under attack by a group of four people, who tried to enter his taxi while he was waiting at a red light at Eu Tong Seng Street.

The driver later identified himself as Desmond Lee, and posted an account of what happened to him in the Singapore Taxi Driver Facebook group.

Transcript (lest you can’t see):

“As a TD, i was beaten up by a passenger. I called the police, but what i got was nothing.

I was attacked by 4 china citizens(2 ladies and 2 men). They opened my taxi door and punched me in the shoulder. I stepped out the door wanted to call the police but the ladies stoped me and let the men run away. The women wanted to accuse me of molesting them. I ran away to ask for help but one of the women purposely fell and said that I pushed her. When the police arrived, I told them what had happened but all they said was they couldn’t do anything because the guys that beat me had ran away. They told me that if i were to see those men again I can call the police to arrest. If I want to persue the matter, I must go state court and sue them. What if they are tourist?

They was a security guard that saw the whole incident told the police officer.

Does taxi drivers even have the protection in singapore when we are being beaten by passengers.

Below is the photo of the two women”

Clarifications

When Stomp reached out to the affected driver, he expressed that he had been waiting for the traffic light to turn green outside Furama City Center at around 5:40 a.m. when someone opened his taxi’s door.

“I told them that I could not give them a ride as I was changing shift but they just jumped in,” he said in a phone interview.

“When I told them again, they got angry and one of the men punched my shoulder as I tried to block my face.

“I then exited the taxi and ran in front of the vehicle because there is a car camera there.

“I was calling for the police but one of the women tried to take my phone and stop me.

At this point, he added that one of the men punched him one more time, while he was out of the camera’s frame.

He then fled from the assailants, and he said that the two men then jumped into another taxi while the two women sat by the side of the road.

It has to be taken note that over in the comments section on the original post, the debate has spiralled into a near ‘political’ war.

You can check it out here.

And with that said…

Buckle up in the middle of the night, drivers.

Because you never know when hell will break loose.
