A Malaysian young man was filmed in Orchard Road on 12 Feb, kneeling down in front of his girlfriend. The footage was then put up online, and it got viral rapidly.
In the video, the man was kneeling and begging for forgiveness, and could even be seen getting shoved around by the girl.
Take a look here.
The video blew up, drawing many different comments from netizens, ranging from those who derided him for being spineless, to those commenting on domestic abuse. The man was apparently kicked and got his hair pulled before he was filmed.
Some keyboard warriors were quite ticked off at how he was grovelling at the girl’s feet, telling him through internet comments to leave the girl before he loses what was left of his perceived masculinity.
The Malaysian man replied on his Facebook account a few days later, sort of explaining his actions but not quite.
Apparently, he had his own reasons for kneeling, and he thought it would show his sincerity.
I’m rather inclined to believe him.
However, both parties must be on the same page on this, lest the guy thinks he was being sincere while the girl just ends up looking down on him. Yet again, communication is the key here.
That’s not saying I would totally do the same thing, though. I’d need a girlfriend first.
