Back when Pokémon GO was released in the US, Singaporeans had to wait for one whole month before the game landed in our shore.
And so, when Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, an indirect sequel to Pokémon GO (it’s made by the same developer with a rather similar gameplay), was released two days ago in the US and UK, we all thought that it’d be July before we can cast spells and fight monsters in Hougang with a group of like-minded Harry Potter fans.
Well, it turns out that we won’t have to wait for so long.
For the game is already in Singapore (but read on because it doesn’t seem to be for everyone yet).
Announcement on Social Media
Hours ago, the official Facebook and Twitter account of Wizards Unite posted these:
The worldwide rollout of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite continues! Check out our blog for the latest list of additional countries where you can now download the game. https://t.co/wwLDhmZCMG #WizardsUnite https://t.co/qGiptTLjAa

Must be for more European countries, you think, until you go in and cry after seeing the list:
Yes, it’s supposedly available for Singapore since 9:30 a.m., Pacific Time, on 22 June 2019.
That means it’s available since 12:30 a.m. this morning in…Clementi.
Last I know, the time in Clementi and Bukit Batok seems to be the same, so I went online immediately and ta-da:
I couldn’t find it.
However, I do have friends using Android who are already playing it.
And what better way to confirm this news them to check the ever reliable Hardwarezone forums?
Well, turned out that they, too, have the game as well.
I’m not certain why I didn’t have it; a check online via my web browser shows that it’s available, though.
Until I asked our app developer.
“Okay, I’ve checked. Your phone Android version supports the app. So there are only three possibilities: the first is that when we release an app or update, we can choose to release it 100% to all users or progressively. Their developer might have progressively released it instead, so you just have to wait.
“The second possibility is that the server on your side isn’t updated yet, so you’ll just need to wait for a while.”
Ah…so I just needed to wait. But what’s the third possibility?
“You’re an idiot.”
Pretty sure the third one makes the most sense.
What’s The Game All About
If you’ve come to our app daily, you’ll know how it works.
But if you’re a naughty fellow who doesn’t, you can tap here to learn more.
Basically, it’s really like Pokémon GO and…
- The graphics are really lit
- It’s very plot-driven with lots of talking
- There are quests involved
- Battle isn’t based on luck but skills
- You need good fingers for the game
Here’s a video of a couple playing the game:
So far, if you’ve read online reviews, you’ll know that people think that it could yet create another phenomenon like Pokémon GO.
Let’s wait and see.
