As the nation braces itself for a plethora of community cases, measures have been imposed to smoothen the impact.
Social interactions, though unenforced, should be reduced wherever possible.
Vending machines that dispense ART kits have also been made available.
Meanwhile, it seems that local primary schools have also been roped in, as we look set to embrace the COVID-19 as an endemic.
Primary Schools & SPED Schools will Start Full Home-Based Learning from 27 Sep
Effective from 27 September 2021, all primary schools will commence home-based learning until the conclusion of this year’s Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE).
PSLE 2021 will start on 30 September, and end on 6 October.
To ensure the utmost safety, Primary 6 students will also be entitled to a study break from 25 to 29 September 2021.
“This will better protect our younger students who are not yet medically eligible for vaccination,” said MOE on 18 September 2021.
“This is to minimise the risk of school-based transmissions and reduce the number of students placed on Quarantine Order or Leave of Absence prior to the examination.”
It should be noted that the same measure will also apply to relevant Special Education (SPED) schools, which are offering the national curriculum.
Meanwhile, families who require additional support can approach their children’s schools for advice/assistance.
As for MOE kindergartens, KCare Services and Student Care Centers, they will continue to operate as per usual.
Testing
Students are also advised to do an Antigen Rapid Test (ART) at home, 1 to 2 days before the end of their respective study period.
For Primary 6 students, it will be on either 27 or 28 September 2021. For the rest, it will be on either 4 or 5 October 2021.
If they test positive for ART or if they procure two invalid ART results in a row, they will be required to take a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) swab test.
“Our students are taking their national exams amidst challenging circumstances – let us all do our part to support them and protect our school community,” said Education Minister Chan Chun Sing.
“Ministry of Education, Singapore will continue to monitor the #COVID19 situation closely and implement additional measures to keep our school environment safe, where necessary.”
