I remember the days where my dad would ask me for help to wash our car in the HDB car park washing bay (or is it called service bay?), and the little me back then just focused on how it was going to be fun playing with water. Wah, look at the water pressure!
Reader Bao: Simi? HDB got car wash and vacuum by itself meh?
No, Mr Bao.
With a bucket and sponge in one hand and holding my dad’s hand with my other, we headed to the car park.
But gone were those days where you filled a bucket with water and washed your car with it.
Nope. Make way for the future, guys.
HDB multi-storey car parks have car washing bays that used to just have a tap where you could attach your own hose.
“Car Care Systems” With Stronger HDB Water Pressure
Now, several car parks have a “Car Care System” where the tap has been upgraded into an entire coin-operated machine that allows you to use a water jet, dispense water, and vacuum the inner parts of your car thanks to local engineering consultancy QE Elemech Engineering.
Talk about cool.
The pressure of the high-pressure water jet can be reduced simply by turning the nozzle. This will definitely come in handy when it comes to getting rid of all that dirt on your car.
A standard water dispenser is available if you still want to fill a bucket and scrub your car with a sponge, the old school way.
The vacuum will help a lot if you’re trying to get rid of all the dirt stuck between your seats that cleaning with a cloth may not get rid of. It would also help in cleaning your carpets.
According to AsiaOne, the rates of using the machine are as follows:
- Water Jet: $1 for 3 minutes
- Water Dispenser: $0.20 for 30 seconds
- Vacuum: $1 for 5 minutes
So if you’re looking to use these machines, make sure you bring sufficient coins!
Unfortunately, it seems that these machines are only available in the north-eastern region of Singapore as of now. It is unclear as to whether HDB will be expanding this service to other neighbourhoods.
Where Can These Machines Be Found?
