HDB is Now Using Memes About People Marrying for BTO to Promote Aug 2020 BTO Launch

As a Wise Old Man once said while using 9Gag: “Memes work for anything. Anything.

And to prove his point, he shoved his phone in my face.

“You don’t cure sadness. You heal them through memes,” he said animatedly.

And as intolerant as I am of this serial chicken lover, I can’t help but agree.

Memes are love. Memes are life.

And to prove my own point? Well…

You don’t have to look further than the Housing & Development Board’s ‘modernised’ attempt to promote their impending August 2020 launch…

Through memes.

HDB Suddenly Post Memes About People Marrying for BTO to Promote Aug 2020 BTO Launch

On 4 August 2020, Housing & Development Board (HDB) posted a meme, which was created in conjunction with local content creator SGAG, on its Facebook page.

In the meme, HDB pokes fun at the ways we ‘calculate’ love in a relationship, by setting up a comparative analysis of two very different ‘methods’.

On the right, there’s the supremely generic online love calculator, which requests for users to input their names to calculate a ‘love compatibility’ score.

Which is a total scam, considering how I scored 100% with my crush back in Secondary School and she didn’t even know my existence. But moving on.

Captioned “Teens when they’re serious about their partners”, it’s a humorous dig at how the younger generation perceives relationships.

And then on the left, we have the most unique “love calculator” known to mankind. In fact, it might be even more reliable than that self-proclaimed love teller situated in some rural area of Singapore, who charges $2 for every five seconds of “love advice”;

An HDB eligibility check.

And I’m inclined to agree too. In sunny Singapore…

A solid plan for a BTO is probably the steadiest way to show your willingness to settle down.

And It’s Not The Only Meme

In light of its impending launch, it seems that HDB has embarked on a roaring run…

With memes as a central figure of it all

Just yesterday (6 August 2020), the statutory board uploaded another meme onto its Facebook book, this time poking fun at a certain… Beatty Oh.

Not sure whether HDB’s Ryan Higa, or whether Ryan Higa was actually HDB’s secret agent all along.

In the meme, HDB jokingly (I hope) slides into Oh’s DMs with two of the slickest pick-up lines to grace mankind:

“Sales launch coming soon.”

“Visit esales.hdb.gov.sg for details.”

Well, that’s a done deal alright. Beatty Oh’s definitely swayed now.

For real though, plan before making an application.👍We’ll be posting details of the Aug 2020 BTO exercise on our…

And when the details are revealed?

Another meme.

All jokes aside, it seems that HDB has adopted a humorous approach to its announcements (regarding the August 2020 BTO launch), and if I may say so…

It has certainly worked, considering how Beatty Oh garnered a whopping 2K shares and 1.1K likes & reactions.

Well, it looks like memes are really the way to go in this technologically-driven age.

Won’t be surprised if politicians start turning to memes in the future too, in all honesty. If they haven’t already.

Anyways, you can check out more info about HDB’s August BTO launch on their official website.
