HDB Using Robots to Paint & Plaster Walls In New BTO Flats

The future is here; right in the very place you’re going to stay in soon.

The Housing & Development Board (HDB) is rolling out robots (yes, robots) to paint and plaster walls in about 50% of new Build-To-Order (BTO) sites starting next year.

Lest you think they’d look like Tesla robots, no, they look like a robot from a Tuas factory instead:

This move will speed up construction and get BTOs to homeowners faster.

HDB Using Robots to Paint & Plaster Walls In New BTO Flats

Senior Minister of State for National Development Tan Kiat How shared this news at HDB’s professional engagement and knowledge-sharing forum at HDB Hub on Wednesday (23 October).

HDB has already tested these construction robots in ten BTO projects since last year.

To make life easier for contractors who haven’t used robots before, HDB is teaming up with suppliers. They’ll offer painting and skimming robots at good prices through regular contracts.

This helps contractors get their hands on fancy tech without breaking the bank, and speeds up the process of finding and using the right robots for their sites.

Despite COVID-19 throwing a wrench in HDB’s construction plans and causing delays, they’re going full steam ahead. Their target is to deliver 100,000 BTO units by the end of 2025.

Since 2023, HDB has completed about 34,500 BTO units across 43 projects. Some standout projects include Plantation Acres and Plantation Grange in Tengah.

The biggest BTO project so far, Rivervale Shores in Sengkang, just bagged two HDB awards on Tuesday (October 22) for architecture and design.

So if you’ve booked a BTO, you might need to prepare your engagement ring earlier #justsaying
