For those of you who drive, this article may just save your life. Or your car’s life, whichever way you look at it. Most of us know when it’s time for our car to go for servicing, but we also know of some drivers who have no freaking idea what is happening to one of their biggest investments.

I’m sure you have heard horror stories of people who continued to drive their car until the engine explodes from lack of water and oil right? Exactly.

I’m going to make things a lot easier by pointing out 5 sounds that, if you hear from your car, tells you that a problem is going to occur. Very soon. If your car happens to be making any of these sounds, or all of them (God forbid), you need to get it to a workshop as soon as possible.

You hear screeching and squealing whenever you brake
Your brake hardware is worn out, my friend, resulting in a pad that doesn’t release properly, causing excessive heat and noise. You need to get your brake pads replaced now before it causes further damage to your car.

A grinding noise when you brake
This is an even bigger problem than the first point. This grinding noise indicates that the rotors need replacing because, yes, there are no pads left. Any delay in servicing will cause damage to the caliper or brake hydraulics, or even worse, brake failure which can get you into fatal accidents. No joke.

Sputtering or rattling sounds from the exhaust when you start up your car
There’s a hole somewhere in your exhaust system and you need to get it fixed as soon as possible because, you know why? Yes, you might die from carbon monoxide poisoning if you do not. So don’t hold out too long or it won’t just be your car dying.

Your engine is producing squealing noises
Seems like a relatively small issue but I can tell you, it’s not. In fact, the squealing noises you hear might be due to drive belt getting worn out. If not fixed soon, not only will your car lose its power steering or charging system, but it will also lose its engine cooling abilities. And we, as drivers, know what happens when your car overheats, right? Yep, you don’t want to be caught in that situation.

Weird growling or roaring noises when driving
Unless you are damn well sure those noises are coming from your modified (zhenged) engine and exhaust, do get some new tires or wheel bearings for your car as quickly as you can. Otherwise, you can be sure to be stranded on the side of a road one day because your wheel wouldn’t work anymore.
