SM Entertainment’s newest girl group, Hearts2Hearts, has come under scrutiny after a viral post revealed that most of its members dropped out of middle school.

The group was announced earlier this year, and its members range in age from 15 to 19.

Hearts2Hearts Members’ Educational Record

All members of Hearts2Hearts reportedly dropped out of middle school, except for Carmen and Stella. Carmen dropped out of high school and later earned her GED, while Stella also left during her high school education.

The schools involved include Bangog Middle School, Majang Middle School, Heungdeok Middle School, SNU Women’s Middle School, and Yangju Middle School.

Public Reaction Over Middle School Dropout Status

Netizens reacted strongly to the reports. Many expressed concern over members leaving school at such a young age, especially since middle school is considered compulsory education in South Korea.

Comments included concerns about the company debuting members who had not completed basic schooling.

Some users wrote that it was irresponsible to make minors leave school for training or debut activities. Others said the company should ensure that members complete at least middle school before debuting.

Concerns were also raised about trainees who did not debut being encouraged to drop out of school.

A few commenters compared the group to other idols. NewJeans members Haerin and Hyein also graduated only from elementary school before passing a qualification exam. Some noted that SM Entertainment has previously cast students in their final year of high school, only for them to drop out before graduation.

While some idols continue their studies after debut, others drop out to focus on their careers. Those who stay in school often attend arts high schools that allow flexibility for entertainment activities.
