Surprise Change As DPM Heng Swee Keat, Who’s Been in Tampines GRC Since He Debuted, Contesting in Another GRC
On 30 June, he arrived at St Anthony’s Cannosian Primary School, the nomination centre for East Coast GRC, Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC, Sengkang GRC and Punggol West single seat, in the late morning.
His team comprises of Senior Minister of State for Defence and Foreign Affairs Maliki Osman, three-term backbencher Jessica Tan and one-term Fengshan MP Cheryl Chan. Fengshan, previously an SMC, was absorbed into East Coast GRC for GE2020.
According to Mothership, he is likely replacing former Manpower Minister Lim Swee Say as the anchor minister of East Coast GRC.
The PAP team will be going up against a team from the Workers’ Party.
You can expect this area to heat up as the team fielded by Workers’ Party includes Ms Nicole Seah, who previously made waves in 2011, disappeared for a while before coming back for GE2020, garnering a lot of attention from the public.

First Time Leaving His Home Ground
DPM Heng Swee Keat’s political career started from 2011 where he was elected into parliament after winning a seat at Tampines GRC.
And he’s been there ever since. Until now, that is.
Political watchers in Singapore were surprised at him contesting at East Coast GRC as it was speculated that he will remain at Tampines GRC.
