It’s that time of the year again. If you’re still living with your parents, your mom should start nagging about spring cleaning right about now.
As always, it’s hard to decide what to feed the dumpster and what to stuff back inside your wardrobe. After all, we do get attached to certain items because of various reasons.
“Hey, look! It’s my old pacifier! Maybe I can save this for my future child…”
“Look, dear! It’s the sandwich wrapper from our first date! We can talk about this for ages to come!”
…You get the idea.
As such, here is a guide to knowing what you should probably throw away during spring cleaning.
1) Old clothes
Perhaps one of the most obvious on this list. Dig through your wardrobe and sort out your clothes. I’m pretty sure there’s at least a couple of shirts or jeans you don’t actually wear anymore.
Use them as rags if they are in horrible condition. If they are pretty much brand new(you know, buying wrong sizes and all), consider donating them to The Salvation Army.
2) Ang Pao
If you are a pantang person, you’ll probably keep your red packets somewhere inside your drawer.
However, you do know that you can throw them away once the Lunar New Year period is over, right? (At least, that’s what I’ve heard)
Unless you’re some kinda Ang Pao collector, then well, go ahead and keep them.
Don’t worry, no one is judging you based on your hobby.
3) Old toys
I’m not sure about you guys, but I do have a box of my old toys hidden somewhere inside my storeroom. You know, things of sentimental value.
As a kid, I couldn’t bear to part with any of my toys. So, as much as my editor is encouraging me to write about throwing away old toys, I’m gonna leave that decision up to you.
4) Old wires/cables
Now, this is interesting. Almost all of my friends actually keep their old wires/cables somewhere in their house.
You know, the charger for your Nokia 3310? Somehow my friend still has the wire for that. The only use I can think of for 3310 nowadays is to use it as a weapon during a zombie apocalypse.
…I guess you can keep it charged for the extra sound effect when fighting zombies.
5) Expired food
I don’t even know why I’m telling you this, but please clear out your storeroom/refrigerator every now and then.
Don’t buy too much food and make sure to finish everything.
DON’T. WASTE. FOOD. (Me, fat man grunting)
The last thing you want for Christmas is for your guests to witness that spectacular ecosystem inside your refrigerator.
6) Expired Medication
… I’ve got a feeling that these will worsen your illness instead of making you feel better. Though, there are people who are claiming that expired medication are still safe for consumption.
Hey, I’m no expert(Or else I won’t be here writing articles, duh), so please listen to your doctor.
7) Greeting cards
Aside from the get well soon cards you might have received during your hospital stay, you may want to consider throwing the seasonal greeting cards away.
It’s kinda like keeping an old calendar. What’s the point, right?
Unless you think it’s rude to throw such cards away, then by all means, feel free keep them.
8) Broken electronics
Remember that VHS player collecting dust in your storeroom? Yeah, it’s time to part ways with it.
Honestly though, the tech is probably outdated and you probably won’t get around to fixing them at all.
9) Old toothbrush
Did you know that you should change your toothbrush every 3 months? Yeah, contrary to popular belief, a toothbrush is not for life.
(Yeesh, I’m not putting that in my mouth)
So, it’s time to dump your 3-year-old toothbrush for something new and better!
10) Gifts from your ex
It’s the end of the year. Time to get rid of all the negativity in your life and start afresh! Now, don’t you come telling me you’re keeping those things due to their “sentimental value”.
You don’t need those things to remind you of someone who’s your “has been”! Remember, there’s a reason you guys broke up in the first place!
…And let’s not go into the complicated love stories(Mutual break up, the one that got away, etc). If you think it’s better for you to keep them, by all means.
