He’s who everyone’s been talking about, his song is what everyone’s been singing or dancing to.
Piko-taro is the guy, or otherwise known as the Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen (PPAP) guy. You ought to know who he is or what it’s about by now, since there are countless memes, remixes and parodies about it. Secondary school kids are singing this song aloud in train, innovative people have created EDM versions of it, and there’s even one titled PAP with our prime minister in it. But, we found out that behind this façade of Admiral Kizaru, lies a normal looking dude who looks young AF without his costume and makeup. He has the name of the devil
He has the name of the devil
He is usually known as DJ Kosaka Daimao, which is translated to “Old Bandai Devil” in English. The Japanese characters literally mean some sort of devil, and it’s quite contradicting to the image he portrays. His real name is Kazuhito Kosaka, so you must be relieved to know there’s no “devil” word inside his name. Piko-taro is his “character” that he created, due to the character’s popularity. Piko-taro is also the guy you see in his PPAP video, who is also known as Admiral Kizaru from One Piece. Confusing, isn’t it?
He’s 43 years old
Surprise! He’s 43 years old, although he doesn’t look like it from the pictures. But well, his character Piko-taro doesn’t look so young.
It almost seems like he has a whole different personality – DJ Kosaka Daimao bears the slightest resemblance to Piko-taro, ain’t it? Not to mention that a DJ sounds all so cool and fancy, but Piko-taro is simply comical and ridiculous.
He reminds us of PSY in Gangnam style
He just reminds us of PSY so much – a comical uncle and a viral hit, which made him much more popular overnight. His video has reached a whopping 8 million views as of today, which was a 4-million-view increase in only a day. Netizens are also commenting how the original video is gaining little views as compared to the Facebook version that had already garnered 50 million views.
He’s in a group (or band if you call it)
He used to be in a group “Nutty AIR-LINE,” which is a comedy trio formed around 1997. It was later changed to “No Bottom!” (Nobotombu), where they fused comedy with music.
We’re not exactly sure how you combine comedy with music production, but it started off that way. The group was later renamed to “NBR (NEW BUSHIDOU RAVERS)” whereby they took out the comedy element and is purely music. Kosaka is the main member along with another DJ and several supporting members. The group combines Japanese festival and traditional music with modern electronic music.
He does quite a number of things
You can only imagine how busy he should be. He does TV shows as well as radio apart from producing music as a DJ. He has two movies up to date – “Helter Skelter” and “Crow of the thumb.” He even has a game “JK Festa~Vampire~Fate,” which was released in November 2014. It’s available on both iOS and Android if you’ll like to check his game out!
