We all have our own preferences even when it comes to body soaps and washes. Some of us who are more on the traditional side are loyal soap bar users (like my parents) while some of us love the convenience of shower gel. Whatever it is, shower gel seems to be at the top and soap bars are placed further at the bottom of the retail shelf.

However, though old-fashioned a soap bar may be, here are some reasons why despite the growing dominance of shower gel, soap bars are still considered the best means of getting cleaned compared to shower gels.

Higher amount of chemicals
Did you know that shower gels contain higher amounts of chemicals compared to a soap bar? Well, the fact is, a lot of fragrances are used to cover up the chemical smell of the already so-much-chemical-contained body wash.

Not only that, but certain chemical ingredients that is contained in a shower gel can cause skin irritation that is difficult for us to detect. Most shower gels have a chemical content of up to 20 which is scary when you come to think about it.

Shower Gel is wasteful
Soap bars are so much less messy to use than shower gel and leave less gross residue behind. In addition, when a person uses shower gel, he tend to squirt out more gel than he really need. It is estimated that people waste about millions of gallons of shower gel every year as they get washed away and go unused.

Soap bars last longer
Shower gels also don’t last as long as soap bars and they are more expensive too!

Soap bars exfoliate better
With soap bar, it will exfoliate your skin as you rub the bar hard against your body. With shower gel, you’ll have to get a brush or bathing scrub to exfoliate. What’s better than a 2-in-1 function, right? And the loofah or brush you use might just trap bacteria and dirt, the very thing you’re trying to get rid of in the first place.
