Aloe Vera isn’t just a cactus-looking succulent plant that’s grown in tropical climates for decoration. I remember back in my primary school days, our school’s backyard had a little garden where the gardeners would plant various plants for us to learn and discover during science lessons.
Being mischievous as we were at that age, whenever one of us among my group of friends fell down or injure ourselves, we would try to be “helpful” by suggesting to pluck off a part of the aloe vera and smearing the sticky substance onto the wound. Back then, we didn’t think much on why it healed wounds so easily but more of it being a plant with magical powers.
For a while now, aloe vera has been incorporated into various everyday products including drinks, facial washes and lotions. And here’s why you shouldn’t just hear about it but really use aloe vera in your daily facial routine.
It helps prevent acne
Common among teenagers, most people treat acne through mild soaps or by getting medicinal pills. But do you know that aloe vera is a natural way to help prevent acne? The soothing gel of aloe vera contains two ingredients that help with healing wounds. This allows your acne to absorb the nutrients in aloe vera plus it helps with minimising scarring.
It is a natural moisturiser
Facial masks or soaps are often used because it helps to cleanse and moisturise our faces. However, using the wrong type of facial cleanser may result in dry skin, oilier skin or severe breakouts. Aloe Vera is life’s natural moisturiser and is known to be suitable for all kinds of skin.
It helps to fight ageing
Nobody can stop us from growing older, but what we can do, is to prevent ourselves from looking like we’re growing older. The nutrients in aloe vera which contains vitamin C and E helps to prevent saggy skin and tighten the face naturally while keeping it moisturised and hydrated.
It helps to minimise the visibility of stretch marks
Similar to the above, because of the said nutrients in the plant, any stretch marks you have on your face will be minimised and less visible. You may choose to go beyond your face and try it on your stomach if you were pregnant or had lost or gained weight rapidly, leaving stretch marks. The gel in the aloe vera will work its magic on healing those wounds hence, lessen the visible scars.
It treats sunburn
After a day under the sun or at the beach, most of us would face itchiness and peeling of the skin from sunburn. The red and irritated skin is often caused by exposure to the sun for a long period of time and all we want to do, is to relieve the itch by scratching. But the next time you have sunburns, don’t scratch! Try getting a piece of aloe vera and gently apply the gel onto those affected areas instead. The plant aids in healing your burns quicker while keeping it hydrated plus it feels soothing!
