The elderly victim, who was riding a Honda EX-5 motorcycle, was rushed to Jelebu Hospital but died while receiving treatment at approximately 2:30PM.

The driver, identified as a Malay man, tested negative in a urine screening test conducted after he surrendered. The police did not specify which substances were being tested for.

Chen, 46, who currently stars in the ongoing Mediacorp drama Emerald Hill – The Little Nyonya Story, had posted a video of the crash on Instagram showing a car speeding away after knocking over his father, who was left motionless on the ground.

In a short clip, Chen made an emotional plea asking the perpetrator to come forward and apologize to his father.

Actor Calls for Better Emergency Medical Facilities Following Tragedy

Chen was on vacation with his family in Bangkok when he received news of his father’s death. He has since returned to his hometown in Negeri Sembilan for funeral arrangements.

Speaking to Malaysian media 8TV at the wake, Chen said: “The police say the perpetrator has surrendered and has been arrested. But as for what the situation will be like in the future, I have no idea. I also don’t know what he will be charged with and how he will be punished. I will speak to the police after settling my father’s affairs.”

The actor raised concerns about medical emergency response times in parts of Malaysia.

He claimed his father lay on the ground for half an hour before an ambulance arrived, and it took over an hour from the time of the accident for him to reach the hospital.

“By the time he got to the hospital, it had been over an hour from when the crash occurred, and he likely missed the critical period to receive treatment just like that,” Chen stated.

Chen described his father as a healthy and optimistic man who raised seven children by running a provision store.

The actor reportedly last saw his father two weeks before the accident when they attended a relative’s wedding in Kuala Lumpur.

The funeral and cremation ceremony for Chen’s father took place on 1 Apr 2025.
