If your marriage is built on a foundation of blackmail and lies, it’s probably not going to end well.
Unless your husband also lied about the blackmail, of course. Then it’s only lies and your marriage has a great chance of success.
That’s what happened to Steven Cheung, a Hong Kong singer, and his fiancee.
I now pronounce you husband, wife, and girlfriend
You may have read about Cheung’s sudden marriage announcement last week and the chaos that ensued.
Cheung announced his engagement with a picture on Instagram of himself, together with his baby and fiancee.
While his fiancee must have been pleased, his girlfriend certainly wasn’t.
Yes, he also had a girlfriend (It gets worse, trust me).
Imagine seeing your boyfriend or girlfriend announce an engagement online. Your brain would probably be too confused to register any emotions.
April Leung, an actress who is believed to be Cheung’s longtime girlfriend, shared a post on Instagram with the caption “May I know what’s going on?”
And thus Cheung’s pile of lies came tumbling down.
Not just one
Three other women came forward and claimed that Cheung had slept with them and even borrowed money from them.
According to AsiaOne, they had found each other after commenting on Cheung’s Instagram post claiming that they were his victims.
You probably think Cheung’s a jerk for cheating on his fiancee and these four women. Well, remember how I said it’d get worse?
Apology
In a public apology on Instagram, the 34-year-old confessed that he had lied to the other women, saying he was forced to marry his then-pregnant girlfriend.
Specifically, he said that she used her unborn child to blackmail him into marriage.
He also admitted that he never broke up with Leung despite being in a committed relationship with his fiancee.
“It was irresponsible and a mean thing to do on my part. She always thought that I was only dating her, only to find out that she had been kept in the dark for a long time, wasting her youth and her time. I understand that I have done her wrong and shouldn’t be forgiven. But I must sincerely say one thing to April: Sorry!” he wrote.
With regards to the lie about the blackmail, Cheung said “The truth is, my fiancée never used our baby to threaten me to do anything. I was the one who insisted on having the baby. She has always been forgiving, accommodating and tolerant of me. I hope that these false allegations against her will stop. I sincerely apologise to her”.
It’s funny how sorries spill out of liars’ mouths like chocolate out of a lava cake when they get caught. Are they truly sorry? Only time will tell.
For now, please keep it in your pants.
