MP Asked Hoarder in Supermarket Why They Panic-Buy & Family Said, ‘None of Your Business’

During the COVID-19 outbreak, many good people emerged.

A couple gave free masks, companies gave free food and a person even gave up his lucrative business to suit up for a fight against the nasty bug.

These stories show that good does exist in the world despite how Netflix is showing us the dark side of society.

But then again, there are some who go with the mindset of every man for himself.

Like a family in Woodlands 888.

Woodlands 888, A Mall With no Air-Conditioner

Lest you’re not aware, Woodlands 888 is located in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by countless HDB blocks.

It’s not your usual mall but an HDB “central” instead, and is popular amongst people living in Woodlands as there’s a coffeeshop that’s open 24 hours.

Its MP is Amrin Amin, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Home Affairs and  Ministry of Health.

The politician, just like several other politicians, had gone to a supermarket to check out the situation after Malaysia announced its lockdown and people’s panic-buying button was pressed.

You’d have expected everyone to behave themselves when an MP is around.

But no.

One of the hoarders DGAF and even passive-aggressively shoved off the MP.

Lest you can’t read:

I was at Woodlands 888 Plaza NTUC at 1230 am today.

I saw a family buying crates of eggs and other necessities. I asked them why. One of them answered ‘none of your business’.

Almost right except that it affects us all now. When we rush, we whip up a frenzy, stocks run out, more people panic. So it is our business. It affects all of us as the crazy cycle feeds itself.

In any case, the flow of goods and cargo between Singapore and Malaysia, including food supplies, will continue.

Rudeness aside, and MP aside, the person’s attitude have opened a floodgates of comments.

Most, as expected, frowned upon his or her selfish mindset.

Some were genuinely concerned that the family might have to eat eggs for all their meals from now on.

But, like what the MP said, there is actually no need for panic-buying.

Enough Stockpile for Months + Supplies Still Flowing Between Singapore and Malaysia

For a start, Singapore has enough stockpile to last for at least two months. If everyone panic-buys, that could compromise the stockpile, because they’re not meant to be rotted in your house.

Secondly, supplies are still flowing between Singapore and Malaysia. What’s there to worry about?

So if you’re the family who has bought so many stuff and didn’t even know how your MP looks like, I worry for your eggs.
