The COVID-19 pandemic has really made quite a few of us turn into Karens or evolve backwards.
I think we can all remember that picture circulating around the good ol’ Internet around March this year about this kiasu aunty who panic bought a cart full of instant noodles.
This picture was taken during the time Malaysia announced that it was closing its borders which, according to MSN news, induced mass hysteria among many Singaporeans to panic buy food.
Like I said earlier, evolve backwards.
While panic buying is something you don’t see now at grocery stores, it would seem that inconsiderate people still exist.
Half-Eaten Food Found
The baker of Mary’s Delights, a home-based baker in Sembawang took to Facebook on Sept 25 to share her grievances of her half-eaten baked goods found discarded at the stairwell.
Now, this is a terrible situation for the owner because she realised that it was someone else and not the customer who ate it.
In the caption, she wrote that the customer was supposed to collect it at 3pm but would be delayed. In the end, the baker left it hanging outside her door as she had to go fetch her child at 4pm.
At around 4.50pm, the baker noticed that the food had already been collected which was very odd considering the fact that the customer texted her to say that they were just only making their way to collect the food.
Panicked, the baker realised that it was someone else who collected it.
“I look ard frantically for the item. And found it at my stairways.. eaten and thrown..”
A container was also found in what appears to be the basket of a bicycle.
No Problems In 9 Years
Given how Singaporeans have been leaving their bags at tables while going to order food, you know we all think that Singapore is safe, and everyone around, angels.
That was probably what this home baker thought as well.
She pointed out that this is the first time such an incident happened in her 9 years of business.
While obviously upset about this incident, the baker mentioned that it was a lesson to be learnt.
It’s not about the refund, she said, but the fact that her customer was affected.
She went on to add that she has already apologised to the customer who had to forgo the cake.
But let’s face it – it was the culprit(s) behind that should be the one to apologise.

Suggestions From Concerned Netizens
Many concerned netizens have expressed their sympathy and anger at the baker’s plight.
Totally understandable of course.
Some have suggested for the baker to cease self-collections while others have even gone as far as asking the baker to install cameras or recording devices to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future.
In a follow-up post, the baker thanked everyone who expressed their concern and also for the advice.
Salams everyone… With regards to my latest post.. it ws definitely a lesson learnt for me especially for a small…

The baker also shared that it’s not easy to bake while supporting three young children. She added that she would bake at night when the children were asleep or when they were at school.
