Remember how we clapped for our frontline heroes?
Back on 30 March 2020, when we could still go out to have chendol in our favourite hawker centres, people in Singapore answered the call to clap for our frontline warriors.
Some clapped, some cheered and some even banged on saucepans.
Goody Feed has exclusive footage of how a frontline hero reacted:
That was an unofficial call by British expatriate Martin Verga, who has lived in Singapore for 10 years. The guy who works in finance was inspired by #ClapforNHS, whereby millions of Britons stepped onto their balconies to clap as a form of appreciation for the healthcare workers.
Even the UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, supported the call and was last seen clapping outside his official residence…before being confirmed to be positive for COVID-19.
But anyways.
Remember, the previous clap was organized by a man, and the people fighting the virus back then was mainly the healthcare professionals.
This time, a new initiative has been planned, and with us all being enlisted as warriors in this fight, the authorities are the one who have stepped in to organise this with the support of the media industry and mainstream artistes.
Sing Alone, Singapore!
Head over to your calendar and clear your schedule for 25 April 2020, 7:55pm.
Because this could well be the biggest event in the history of Singapore so far, and the first time that we get to hear your tone-deaf father sing.
On 25 April 2020, 7:55pm, you’re encouraged by Ah Gong (both the Ah Gong in your house and the Ah Gong that you pay taxes to) to sing alone ‘Home’ to show appreciation to our frontline workers, migrant workers, and most importantly, you who are staying at home to fight this virus.
It’s so official that all local TV stations and radio channels would be playing the song during this time.
And to make it even more impressive, you must not sing it to your chou chou; instead, head to your balconies or windows, and sing aloud even if you sing as bad as Donald Duck. Scream if you want because some of us sing like we’re having a constipation.
For the social-media savvy people, record yourself singing in landscape mode and post it on your favourite social media platforms with the hashtags #singtogetherSG #stayhomeforSG #SingaporeTogether
Remember to set it on public because mainstream media might pick you and feature you on TV. If you sing well, you might be spotted as a talent and become the next Stephanie Sun. If you sing like me, you can become the next Steven Lim.
And by the way, if you don’t have a flashlight, just use your phone lah.
Of course foreigners are welcome to join in, because you guys are also fighting this common enemy. Heck, since we’ve Malaysia readers, if you’re in Malaysia, just head out and sing lah who cares about where you stay or the colour of your IC.
Lest you’re one and didn’t know how to sing it, here’s the song.
This is the English version…
…and this is the Chinese version:
Let’s create history and tell our grandkids how we gave each other a pat during a firefight, because while we’ve sung this every National Day, this is the first time that the song holds so much more meaning.
Rumours have it that when we all sing, the coronavirus would be so touched that it’ll cry and go back to Mars.
Here’s a simplified summary of the South Korea martial law that even a 5-year-old would understand:
