There are many reasons behind a traffic jam.

Maybe there’s a selfish cyclist hogging the road.

Maybe there’s an ostrich doing the 100m sprint down a highway.

Maybe there was an accident ahead and the road was blocked.

Or more likely, there was an accident on the other side of the road ahead and busybody drivers are slowing down their vehicles when passing by just to ogle.

Either way, traffic jams happen but this is probably the first time a horse caused a small jam in Singapore.

Imagine having to call your boss to tell him that you’ll be late because a horse blocked the road.

You might as well just tell them that your dog ate your work documents!

Horse Allegedly Escaped from Stable & Seen Wandering Near Bukit Timah Road

Occurring on 11 August 2021 at around 10:45am, a strapping grey-and-white horse was presumably lost after escaping from its enclosure.

It was caught wandering along Vanda Link near the old racecourse, causing a small traffic jam as drivers were forced to slow down.

Needless to say, it turned a lot of heads and caused quite a bit of headache too!

One of the affected drivers, 56-year-old Lim Yuan Rong, told a reporter from Shin Min Daily that he was shocked when the horse suddenly overtook him on the road from the left.

It then proceeded to saunter along the road in front of his car, forcing him to slow down.

Eventually, the other vehicles behind him caught up to him, resulting in a five-vehicle jam.

Thank goodness it isn’t rush hour, or the jam would have been much, much worse. *shudder*

After trotting along the road for 10 metres or so, the horse “switched on its turn signal”, so to speak, and turned into a smaller road on the side.

The road was finally unblocked for the five vehicles behind it.

Despite being a daily user of the road, Mr Lim told the reporter that this was the first time he encountered such an incident.

He didn’t dare to honk his horn to get the horse to go faster or to move aside, lest he accidentally agitates it and getting his vehicle kicked.

So, he ended up just driving slowly and patiently wait for the horse to move.

What a story he will have for his colleagues back in the office when he finally gets there.
