Shirtless Man Arrested for Walking Around Hougang with 2 Knives

Seeing a shirtless man roaming about in your neighbourhood clutching knives is indeed a terrifying sight to behold, one that shocked residents of Hougang on 7 June.

A 58-year-old man has been arrested for the possession of offensive weapons.

According to residents, the man had been walking around the neighbourhood on 7 June without wearing a shirt, and he had been carrying two knives with him.

One 35-year-old resident said that the man is a familiar face in the area, but there were concerns among residents that he might hurt someone while walking around with the dangerous weapons.

Hence, they called the police.

The man then sat down on a bench after walking around with the knives.

Over ten policemen arrived at the scene, along with Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel.

When he was approached by the police, he was seen to be in a slight state of agitation and stood up from the bench when the conversation with the police officers became tense. However, he did not struggle or resist the arrest made by the police.

Another resident, a 62-year-old woman, saw the man leaving with the police at around 9am.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the man was “armed with two choppers”.

The police had received a call for help at Block 309 Hougang Avenue 5 on 7 June, 8:11am.

They eventually arrested the man for possessing offensive weapons.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported. Police investigations are currently underway.

Just yesterday, a man was sentenced to jail for attacking others with a chopper.

Man Who Slashed 2 Bosses with a Chopper & Killed 1 Gets 20 Years’ Jail

A man has been given 20 years’ imprisonment on 9 June for a deliberate attack on his superiors in an e-commerce office located in Sungei Kadut Loop that occurred in March 2019.

After receiving news that he no longer needed to attend work, Yee Jing Man, 24, had slashed two of his bosses with a chopper, killing one and severely injuring the other.

As for his third superior, Yee ordered him to eat a red packet containing $20 that he had given to him for Chinese New Year.

He then blocked off the office where the attack took place and threatened his colleagues with the chopper and a knife to prevent them from calling the police for help.

He stabbed himself in the abdomen and slashed his wrist afterwards.

After the man’s arrest, Yee went for an assessment as was found to be suffering from major depressive disorder, which greatly reduced his responsibility for the attacks.
