Yesterday, details of Huawei’s latest foldable phone were unfolded.
It, of course, couldn’t have come at a better timing: just a few days ago, Samsung shocked the world with their foldable phone.
And lest you’re not unaware, people weren’t shocked at the phone, because it was something that we were all expecting. People were shocked at the price, which starts from $2.6K.
Yesterday, Huawei, the second largest phone manufacturer after Samsung, announced their foldable phone as well.
Turns out that SGD$2.6k is mere chicken feet, because Huawei’s foldable phone starts from…
SGD$3.5k.
Someone bring back the Nokia 3310, please.
Huawei Mate X
Huawei’s foldable phone at least got one thing right: its name.
Called Huawei Mate X, the foldable phone is pretty different from Samsung Galaxy Fold, for the phone has two back-to-back screen that unfolds into an eight-inch tablet from the outside.
In other words, while it’s a phone, it’ll have two screens—the front screen that’s bezel-less would be 6.6-inch while the back screen is 6.38-inch with a bezel that holds the camera.
Here, take a look if it sounds confusing:
You’d have realised that there’s no hinge or gap on the tablet screen, since it’s being bended outward. Pretty slick if you’d ask me.
However, someone who was at the event claimed that “a crease in the screen appeared to be visible.”
But given that they’ve physical device to show to journalist (that works very well, I may add), it does look much better than Samsung Galaxy Fold.
The phone also supports 5G, because by the time the device is out, 5G would soon be available in developed countries.
Not so Powerful Specs, Unlike Samsung Galaxy Fold
The Samsung Galaxy Fold has one of the most powerful specs so far, with 12 GB ram, 512 GB storage space, 7-nanometer processor, six cameras and two batteries that provide 4,380 mAh of juice.
The Huawei Mate X, however, isn’t that powerful: with 8 GB ram, 512 GB storage, 7-nanometer processor, four cameras (but their cameras are one of the best in the world) and two batteries, it’s losing out just a little.
Prices start from €2299 (if you’re wondering why they’re giving the price in Euros instead of USD, you’ve got to read more news, my friend), which is more than SGD$3.5K.
Availability is unknown but it’s projected to be out in the middle of this year.
