Huawei photo from P9 advertisement was allegedly taken by a $4,500 canon camera

Do you ever look at photos taken with your phone camera and go, “How come my photos are so ugly compared to those in the advertisements?”

Well, this may be the reason why.

It all started when Huawei published a photo on Google+ that was advertising for their P9 smartphone.

In fact, the photo was so beautiful that the guys over at Android Police suspected that something was going on.

They did some research, and found out that it was actually taken with a Canon Mark III camera and EF70-200 f/2.8L IS II USM lens – which cost a shocking $2,599 and $1,999 respectively!

After the controversy, Huawei released a statement to try and get themselves out of the sticky situation:

It has recently been highlighted that an image posted to our social channels was not shot on the Huawei P9. The photo, which was professionally taken while filming a Huawei P9 advert, was shared to inspire our community. We recognise though that we should have been clearer with the captions for this image. It was never our intention to mislead. We apologise for this and we have removed the image.

If you have visited the cinemas recently, you might have seen this commercial featuring Scarlett Johansson and Henry Cavill:

Both of them are taking pictures with Huawei P9 phones in the ad, but who knows? Maybe it’s someone else doing it for them behind-the-scenes.
