In the midst of the entire Huawei scandal, some questions were raised from netizens and the media alike about what Huawei and China’s next move should be, besides urgently developing their own softwares.
One of them being: What if China were to fight back against Apple and ban Apple products, just like how the US is banning Huawei?
Oookay, it honestly sounds like a petty move just out of spite, much like back in primary school, when someone does something mean to you, your first instinct would probably be to take revenge and do something even worse to them.
You know, if we compare this to the Huawei-US ban, I wouldn’t put it past Donald Trump to do the same against other countries (ahem, China) if the situation was reversed for the mental age is around the same as well.
However, it seems as if Ren Zhengfei, the founder and CEO of Huawei, doesn’t play these games, and that’s good on his part.
No, Apple won’t be banned
In reference to the question above, Mr Ren was asked about it in an interview with Bloomberg Television, sparked by speculations by experts that China might retaliate by banning Apple’s products.
Mr Ren said he would not allow it to happen and opposed it, saying: “That will not happen, first of all. And second of all, if that happens, I’ll be the first to protest.”
“Apple is my teacher, it’s in the lead. As a student, why go against my teacher? Never,” he also added, showing just how humble he is.
As a leading corporation from the US, a large deal of Apple’s profits still hail from China alone, and a ban would severely affect the brand and in turn, the economy.
According to an estimation by Goldman Sachs analysts, Apple could relinquish nearly one third of its profit if China were to ban its products, which is a lot.
Apple and the US should really start thanking their lucky stars that China doesn’t have plans to ban their products currently, although who’s to say it might not happen one day?
Mr Ren also conceded that because of the export curbs set by the US, it cuts into a two-year lead that Huawei has built over its competitors such as Nokia (simi si Nokia?), in which the company now has to increase their chip supply and find better ways to stay on top of the game in terms of smartphones and 5G.
Imagine a world where China only uses Chinese phones and software, while the US also only uses their own products. It would only lead to the world being less interconnected, which is ironic considering that smartphones are supposed to keep you connected to the outside world.
Still, it’s good that Mr Ren doesn’t wish for China to ban Apple products. Competition is competition anyway, and if your opponent attempts to bring you down, you just need to do everything in your power and find new ways to rise up against them instead of striking back with the same tactic. #wisewords
And did anyone start using Huawei because of the cool CEO? #justsaying
