A fire reportedly broke out this morning (5 October 2019) at 8.05am at Blk 346 Jurong East Street 21.
According to a one-minute video that is shared on Facebook, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) can be seen trying to hose down the fire while the fire continues to grow bigger with thick, black smoke reaching far above the second floor of the shophouse.
They had to use three water jets to hose down the kitchen before the fire was put out.
There was also another video taken from another angle that shows how the smoke towered over the coffee shop and many other buildings in the area.
Yes, that’s how big the fire was.
According to The Straits Times, the fire had to do with the contents in the kitchen but no information on how it started has been released yet.
Investigations on what actually happened are still ongoing.
Three people had to be evacuated from the second-storey of the shophouse and one was taken to Singapore General Hospital after the fire broke out. It was reported that the person was in stable condition and was conscious throughout.
In a Facebook post, the Member of Parliament for Yuhua (the SMC that the fire took place in), Grace Fu, who is also the Minister of Culture, Community and Youth, said that the agencies will work together with the merchant association to help affected stalls and that the grassroots would provide necessary assistance to affected residents.
She also commended the relevant agencies on their quick response to the fire.
Thankfully, nobody was hurt by the fire and once again, SCDF’s quick actions saved the day.
Previous Fire Incidents
Back in October 2016, a Jurong West coffee shop and market also caught fire and resulted in many stalls being affected.
In November 2018, another Jurong West coffee shop also caught fire but thankfully, it was put out just in time.
Hopefully, this will be the final time a coffee shop in Jurong catches fire.
