You may have heard that Ian Fang, 35, was sentenced to 40 months in jail for sexual offences involving a minor.

But what you might not know is that the court has allowed him a four-week deferment — and that he bolted from reporters outside the State Courts.

Court Grants Deferment of Jail Term for Sexual Offences Case

The former actor pleaded guilty earlier this year to sexual offences involving a girl before she turned 16.

The court allowed Fang to defer the start of his jail sentence to 16 Jun 2025 after he requested time to settle personal and professional affairs.

His bail was set at S$30,000, with the court increasing the original figure by S$10,000 following the deferment approval.

According to Shin Min Daily News, Fang left the State Courts around 3:45pm on Monday.

He wore spectacles, a black mask, and a black t-shirt.

He was seen holding a phone to his ear while running across the road toward Chinatown Point to meet someone.

He made no comments to reporters at the scene.

Sexual Offences and Lifted Gag Order

Court documents showed the sexual offences took place at multiple locations, including Fang’s private residence, a luxury hotel, and a hospital.

Fang allegedly told the victim to cry in front of her mother to prevent her from reporting to police.

He also persistently harassed the victim in attempts to pressure her into withdrawing the charges against him.

The gag order on Fang’s identity was lifted on Monday after prosecution applied to have it removed.

The victim stated in her impact statement that she was now “emotionally stronger” and willing to bear the risk of being eventually identified.

Fang’s lawyer objected to lifting the gag order, arguing the victim could be identified with no guarantees on how this would affect her.

The prosecution countered that they had taken steps to remove identifying details from court documents.

The judge ruled to maintain full anonymity protections for the victim while lifting restrictions on identifying Fang.

Media outlets had known about Fang’s identity through public case records since January 2025, when he was originally charged.

A gag order was imposed after charges were filed because Fang was reportedly “in a relationship” with the victim.

Fang previously worked as a performance coach at a children’s modelling school alongside his acting career.

Following media reports on his conviction, some users vandalized his Wikipedia page, adding vulgarities to his name and falsely altering his age to 55.

These unauthorized changes have since been reversed, but his page now reflects his criminal charges and conviction.
