Ian Fang Deceived Victim’s Family for Months, Treated Girl “Like His Own Daughter” in Public

The mother of the teenage victim sexually assaulted by former Mediacorp actor Ian Fang has spoken out about the devastating betrayal.

She described the 35-year-old as “a wolf in sheep’s clothing” and said his behaviour was “worse than an animal”.

Ian Fang, whose real name is Fang Weijie, received a 40-month jail sentence on 19 May 2025 after pleading guilty to having sex with a girl before she turned 16.

The former actor was 34 at the time of the offences and worked as an acting teacher at a child modelling school with students aged four to 14.

Actor Maintained Double Life as Family Friend and Predator

The victim’s family first encountered Ian Fang at an entertainment event in May 2024.

He first got to know the mother, followed by the daughter. The mother knew Fang as a teacher and only learned about his actor status from her friends.

After having dinner with him and a few mutual friends five to six times, she began regarding Fang as a friend. Her daughter would be present at the dinners, but the mother described Fang’s behaviour as “very good acting”.

The artiste would help serve food to the family and called the woman’s husband a close “buddy” and “brother”. He acted as though he was not involved with their daughter.

The mother said she and her husband had regarded Fang “like a brother” but felt deceived after learning what had happened.

The deception continued until the very end. On 2 Aug 2024, just one day before she called the police, the mother ran into him at a Haidilao restaurant and even ordered lobster for him, as she was still in the dark about what had happened.

Court documents revealed that Ian Fang and the girl exchanged contact details after meeting at an entertainment event on 4 May 2024. They proceeded to converse daily.

Fang had sex with the teen on nine occasions between June and July 2024.

On 6 Jun 2024, the teen was checked into a hotel by her mother to be quarantined after getting Covid-19. Fang had unprotected sex with her that day under the pretense of visiting her.

The prosecution said he had unprotected sex with the teen five times. He used a condom on two occasions in July 2024, only when she insisted.

Hospital Discovery Led to Devastating Realisation

The mother learned about her daughter’s sexual assault in August 2024, after the girl was diagnosed with the human papillomavirus, a sexually transmitted infection.

When the mother learned that Fang had infected her daughter with an STI, she was stunned and could not believe it. She described that it felt like “the sky was falling”, and she could not believe someone she regarded as a friend would have done this.

Her daughter was brought into an operating room at 1:00PM that day, and the mother stood outside in shock and broke down crying for two hours. After calming herself down, the mother called the police at 3:00PM.

Saying she wanted to “kill” Fang for what he did, the mother tearfully told 8world that on the surface, Fang had treated her daughter like his own daughter, and she saw him as a friend.

“But in the end, he slept with our child behind our backs,” she said, describing Fang’s behaviour as “inhumane”.

Over the past year, apart from asking her daughter about how she got to know Fang, the mother said she did not dare to ask too much about the assaults and only learned most of the details from news reports on 19 May 2025.

The mother said she cried till 5:00AM after the news broke that day. She was so heartbroken she could not speak.

She also said she did not dare talk to her daughter about this, as her daughter was warded in the Institute of Mental Health because of what had happened and had wanted to commit suicide.

The mother said if her daughter did commit suicide, she would not be able to bear the pain.

Predator Silenced Victim Through Fear and Manipulation

Fang told the girl not to tell her mother or anyone else about their relationship. “When he slept with my daughter, he already knew it was illegal,” said the mother.

The mother later found out that Fang told the girl that he would “definitely go to jail” if anyone found out about their relationship, she recounted to Capital 958. The girl also kept telling her mother that “it was her fault”.

The mother said she hoped that her daughter could study overseas for a few years: “At least this way, she can forget what happened in Singapore.”

The mother also said she had always kept a close eye on her daughter, who did not go out at night.

Fang’s modus operandi, as noted by the judge, was to meet the girl under the cover of night, such as when he went to the hotel she was quarantined at, at the hospital where she was warded, or at his own home.

Calling him “worse than an animal”, the mother said her daughter’s first time having sexual relations should have been with someone who truly loves her, not “this trash”, who was “a wolf in sheep’s clothing”.
