Former Mediacorp actor Ian Fang was sentenced to 40 months’ jail after pleading guilty on 19 May to engaging in sexual activity with a girl before she turned 16.

The victim has since come forward in an interview with 8world News, sharing details about their relationship and its aftermath.

Fang, then 34, met the 15-year-old girl at an entertainment event in May 2024. At the time of the offences, he was working as an acting coach at a child modelling school that catered to students aged four to 14.

The victim told 8world News via text messages that she initially believed Fang was her “first love,” but later realised he had used her as “a tool to indulge in his desires.”

She referred to him as “Teacher Fang” after they began chatting following their meeting in 2024.

The girl said she was drawn to his “maturity” and felt “safe” around him. He gave her a “romantic feeling” that she believed marked her first crush.

Their relationship remained “ambiguous,” as they never confessed their love or acknowledged their connection to others. Fang would hold her hand during walks, take her to the supermarket, and cook for her.

The pair wore sunglasses and masks during their outings and avoided physical contact when there were many people around. According to the girl’s mother, her daughter wore the disguise because Fang made her feel “famous,” as she was led to believe there were paparazzi nearby who would snap photos of them.

Every meeting between Fang and the victim reportedly ended in sex. The girl said that if she could turn back time, she would choose never to have met him.

“He made me fall from light to darkness,” she said, expressing her deep hatred for him.

Fang once had the girl leave a red lip print for him to tattoo on his shoulder. Her mother added that he would run two blocks to buy bubble tea for her daughter after class and often picked her up to send her home.

The former actor leveraged his celebrity status throughout their relationship. He dined at restaurants where he was recognised and didn’t have to pay for meals. According to the girl’s mother, her daughter believed he was a celebrity who got things for free.

Fang often boasted about his fame, claiming fans adored him. He told the girl that the furniture in his home and the clothes he wore were all given to him at no cost.

As part of his wooing tactics, Fang would find out what food the girl liked, buy the frozen version from the supermarket, cook it at home, and tell her he had prepared it specially for her.

Fang was arrested the next day and released on bail after spending one day in detention, with instructions not to contact the girl.

After speaking with her mother, the victim realised Fang’s behaviour was wrong and became angry with herself. The situation took a toll on her emotional and mental health, eventually leading to self-harm.

She was admitted to the Institute of Mental Health for treatment.

The next two months became a nightmare for the victim’s family. Fang bombarded them with anonymous late-night phone calls, leaving the household constantly on edge.

The mother said Fang used numbers without caller ID to call her child from 12am to 2am daily. The family called the police once a week and made multiple police reports.

“We called the police once a week. We made many police reports,” the mother said.

Fang used different phone numbers and sometimes called more than 10 times each night. When the family answered, he would play music such as “The Moon Represents My Heart”.

He would also cry and say “I love you” over the phone.

On one occasion when police were called to the home, they answered the phone when it rang. Fang was on the other end saying “I love you”, unaware that officers were listening.

The mother claimed she lost 10kg from the stress and now requires medication to fall asleep. Court details revealed that between 22 Sep and 27 Sep 2024, Fang made multiple calls to the family, including 18 calls to the victim in one day on 22 Sep.

Knowing he was prohibited from contacting the victim, Fang took to social media to post messages directed at the girl. On 1 Sep, he uploaded a picture of his red lip tattoo with the caption “Tears flow before words”.

The girl’s mother believed Fang was feigning sadness in his post to elicit sympathy.

In another social media post on 10 Sep 2024, Fang wrote: “There are so many songs I want to sing to you… so many things I want to say.” He also posted: “If I lent you my brain for an hour, you will know how painful my life is every day.”

The victim said she is now bravely speaking out to warn others, despite continuing to struggle both physically and mentally.

“Fang Weijie is a big fall on my growth path. Since I fell, I will stand up bravely and will be a hundred times more cautious about people and relationships in the future,” she said.
